Classic comedy, still funny today

Two dumb blondes (Marilyn Monroe and Betty Grable) and one smart blonde (Lauren Bacall) set out to land rich husbands. HOW TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE is known as a Monroe vehicle, but Bacall is the central character and Grable gets the most solo screentime, so this film is not just for Marilyn fans. Grable is in familiar territory; she starred in MOON OVER MIAMI, which had a similar plot. At age thirty-seven, she is still convincing as a twenty-something model. Many of the complications faced by Grable and Monroe on the road to marriage are just plain silly, but you can't help chuckling, and both women are stunning in their gorgeous costumes. Their sitcom-type romances are nicely balanced by Bacall's poignant backstory and the two different, but both genuinely nice, men she must ultimately choose between. There's a great inside joke where Bacall tries to convince a suitor that she prefers older men: "That old guy who starred in THE AFRICAN QUEEN; I'm crazy about him!" Classic comedy, still funny today.Read full review...

Lauren Bacall steals the show!

This was an awesome cast! They use Marilyn Monroe for the cover but she's actually one of the Lesser characters! Lauren Bacall is the number one winner, and head honcho this group! Marilyn Monroe plays and nearsighted d i t z, and Betty Grable... She's hot but she's actually not much brighter. The whole point of the movie is three girls get together on a mission to catch a millionaire want to lay odds as to how that little game turns out? It's a lot of fun! And one of my very favorite of the old movies with Monroe in itRead full review...

Great Transaction!

I'm studying film at university and watching all kinds of classic Hollywood films has made me start adding to my collection of DVDs, which can get quite expensive. I was really happy to find this DVD for so cheap (and buying something used doesn't bother me in the least). From a working student's point of view, thank you for having affordable products, it is very much appreciated! :)Read full review...

A Classic

OK, the plot is silly: three women trying to find rich husbands, but the ladies are played by Lauren Bacall, Marilyn Monroe and Betty Grable, which makes up for a lot. It is a film of its time: New York in the 1950s, so don't look for realism or marvelous characters. It does have fun wardrobes and comedic situations. Watch it for fun and a glimpse into the '50s.Read full review...
