Looks good but sounds terrible...

My teenage son wanted to get into some vinyl records. Locally we have Dimple records and some 2nd hand record stores with lots of variety. Not knowing if he was really going to get into records I searched for a player under $200. This unit seemed to fit the bill, but when we opened all of the boxes, I immediately felt the quality of the turntable was "toy" like and the weight of the speakers was really light. The look of the receiver part was great, although the VU meters only seemed to swing with the radio, not the turntable playing.

But the turntable is awful! It is a toy, we tried a few of my "old" records first, the tone arm seems to be too light and it skipped a every few seconds. I did try a brand new record and it did the same, not wanting to damage the record we only tried for a few seconds at at time, each time it the tone arm bounced and would not track with the grooves of the record.

The speakers, we did have one record play a little longer than the others without skipping, it had a little more bass, the speakers did not like that, they sounded like they were spitting with the beat. There really was no bass at all.

With the Bluetooth function, my son's phone paired easily. It did play through the receiver, but the sound quality due to the lack bass make it sound pretty bad.Read full review...
