Nimble Core 2

Purchased this processor with my Lady's computer in mind; she had an e5700 (3GHz) which just seemed sluggish. We simply opened the case, removed the heatsink/fan assembly, cleaned the old thermal paste from the cpu and heatsink, released the old cpu, installed the new cpu, added an 'X' of thermal paste to the heatsink surface of the cpu and bolted the heatsink/fan assembly back on. In fact, my Lady did all of this herself.

Caveats: the BIOS of your computer must support the new cpu. Be careful removing the old cpu & placing the new one, that you do not mash or bend the tiny contacts on the cpu socket. It's also a good idea to clean the contact surfaces of the cpu and the heatsink with alcohol before applying the thermal paste. Just a tiny trail of thermal paste is all one needs in an 'X' shape with tiny dots of thermal paste between the arms of the 'X.'

So, the process is simple; in our systems (Dell Insipron 530s) it gave a quick speed difference -- more than the 10 percent that would be expected; the system works harmoniously. It's a great way to keep an older computer working with newer software.

Reliable, stable high clock rate dual core CPU.

Worked well in an older Dell Vostro200 MT non-FOXCOMM 33 MB system. It's the fastest CPU the non FOXCOM33 MB's will handle with latest BIOS installed. Runs both x64bit Win7 & Win10 OS's with ease. It's not a 4 or 6 core, but for the $$$ a great high clock rate dual core that brought that little Vostro back to life and usability. With a decent ATI HD 7550 video card, maxed out 4gb 800mhz memory and a 250GB SSD boot disk, it will play 1080p .MKV movies with ease and runs apps very well. It's not a good gamer, but it will play older games fairly well with the HD7550 video card.Read full review...

One of the fastest CPU in this family

The E8600 is one of the fastest model in this group. When you previously have one of the older and slower models running on your system, an upgrade like this takes your system to another level, especially if you don't have a dedicated GPU, and your graphics and OS run solely off your CPU. Just the increase in Cache (L2 and L3) makes a significant difference in performance.
Note, your motherboard has to support this CPU for you to really enjoy it.

Surprised by satisfaction!

I took the chance at buying and using a used Intel Core 2 Duo e8600 CPU. First it arrived sooner than the estimated date. Then it just booted right up. With installing new CPU's thats very satisfying. But with a used one thats really a great prize that it all went better than expected from start to finished. Nothing but positives for this.Read full review...

Nice upgrade for an old PC

I used this on an old Dell Inspiron 530S. I checked out Dell forums and found out that this processor was the fastest available for the motherboard. Swapped out the original E2200 for this 8600, and got 50% faster speeds over all. Bumped the memory from 3 to 8 GB, and it actually works great as a work station, and for last generation games.Read full review...

E8600 wolfdale CPU

I recommend this product highly, I have bought two so far and been well pleased.

This CPU is the best two core LGA775 IMO the best stepping and highest speed.

Came well packaged and supplied with grease and the price was modest.

It has given my old socket 775 machines a new lease of life.

Single core performance is as good as many modern CPU's and rates about 70% of the fastest you can get.

Runs cool and just under 1.1 volt VID with no overclocking.

The best bang per dollar out there, a lot of CPU for very little money.

I have experimented with overclocking and it does live up to the reputation this CPU has.

It does 4 GHz easily on air.

If you are in the market for an upgrade cpu, this is the product I chose from the many suppliers

Sometimes, you just need what you need!

I do quite a bit of computer repairs. When I get in a unit from a friend that wants their computer to run at it's peak ability, I'll do the research and install the fastest processor and maximum memory capacity. This particular unit at hand, E8600 was the top of the line for it's motherboard. It works well, friend and I both are happy campers!Read full review...

Stable / Reliable upgrade

I used this to upgrade an HTPC style computer that had an E6420 (2.13GHZ).
The 1.2GHZ speed bump is noticeable and was totally worth getting this CPU.

E8600 - One of Intel's best!

The blistering fast E8600 is the fastest Core 2 Duo ever widely released - has faster single core performance than a Core 2 Quad Q9650 making it great for Windows XP retro computers. Intel was firing on all cylinders when they released this excellent swansong for the Core 2 Duo legacy.Read full review...
