lga 1155 i5-3470S (SROTA) cpu

I read somewhere that cpu's are very hard to kill. Its probably a case of being so well protected against over-voltages or over-heating or something not correct with the socket contacts that the cpu never gets close to being ruined because it shuts down before that can happen. I don't think that applies to any "K" chips, which are designed to allow over-clocking. When extra heat gets into the system you either have a cooling system that can handle it or you might be throwing away a burned-out cpu.
That being said, THIS i5 3470S has less heat generated than the 3470 and it runs very cool on my PC that I built specifically with extra fans and vents in anticipation of much higher cooling requirements. Absolutely NO problems at all with this chip and it runs great and hasn't crashed once since I swapped-out the less capable and older Pentium for the i5 cpu. The board (an Intel DZ77) is the limitation if any exists with DDR3 ram.

Excellent

Wish there was a FreeGeek in Atlanta. This works perfect, helped me convert a junk computer into a somewhat respectable gaming PC replacing an i3-2100T. This isn't an i7-7700K but it works alongside a GTX 560 on a P8Z77 that I had to straighten the socket pins on. I'm giving it 5 stars for what it is, a now slightly outdated processor that does exactly what I need it to, which is run games that need quad core and do a bit more than run Facebook. Got a little over 600 in Cinebench, but I know what I paid for, and for a used product that's damn decent.Read full review...

Exactly what was advertised

This was the exact processor advertised. It was easy to install in my compatible motherboard and is running without a problem. I did have to flash my motherboard bios to recognize the Ivy Bridge architecture, but that was an issue with my motherboard not the processor. Overall, I had a great experience receiving this item.Read full review...
