VN5XMR: Not Beryllium, But Still Quite Good
I compared this Jico SAS/boron stylus to my NOS original VN5xHE stylus on the V15-RS cartridge, which is the same cartridge as the V15VxMR. Only difference is nude HE tip vs Nude MR.
The SAS/B can’t produce the deep and delicate textures of the hollow beryllium cantilever of the original stylus. The SAS/B uses an aluminum stub shaft, and epoxy glue at the stylus tip and at the boron/aluminum interface. This results in a numbing, or loss of detail transmitted into the coil gap.
On its own, the SAS/B is a nice stylus. Well made, high quality, and very pleasant to listen to. It tracks well. But it can’t perform at the level of the full beryllium cantilever.
The brush is under damped. Mine exerted only 0.23 grams pressure instead of 0.5 grams. I added silicone grease to the hinges, and it increased to 0.45 grams, which is close enough! Made a big difference in tracking warped records at 1.1 grams stylus pressure.
So the SAS/B is not a substitute for the original beryllium cantilever. But it’s very acceptable on its own, a close second and available.Read full review...

A great replacement stylus for an excellent cartridge
Difficult to fault. I don’t have the original stylus as a comparison but this tracks band 5 of the harp and flute test of the Shure era 4 test record, which the original stylus struggled with. I would say as good if not better than the original Shure item.
Subjectively it delivers detailed top end and great separation of the instruments. Certainly worth the money and makes me wonder how much better the sapphire cantilever could be. This represents good value for money Read full review...

FABULOUS
EXCELLENT. Highly Recommend seller and product.
Revived my old V15VxMR body, sounds fantastic, many prefer SAS shape to Shure's MR.
Point of Information: Jico told me their brush is not like Shure's. It simply catches loose dust in the grooves prior to the Stylus getting there soon after.
IOW, not Dynamic Damping and Not thousands of anti-static fibers like Shure's OEM Stylus has. Read full review...

old for new
I checked the stylus under a microscope and found what I consider to be a sloppy job of gluing. Compared to the original Shure stylus this diamond was almost totally covered with what appeared to be foamy glue. It plays well and I don't have any problem with the sound, just make me wonder about how well it is actually attached. Time will tell.Read full review...
