It gets the job done
I’ve been in the tech industry for many years. As a piece of tech the AE-01 works very well. It sends MIDI to my Mac, iPad, and iPhone, both wirelessly and via USB. USB to iOS needs an adapter from Apple. The iOS app works well. The AE-01 works as a MIDI controller with GarageBand and other apps. It also receives Bluetooth audio from Mac, iPad, and iPhone. It looks well built, like it will last a while.
I am a beginner at wind instruments, with only a little bit of trumpet experience in elementary school. As an instrument the AE-01 works. I can play this thing a little bit, and from my trumpet experience I understand I will need a lot of practice to become competent. I can practice with headphones and not disturb my neighbors. The tutorial on the iPad app is helpful.
One complaint I have is with the mouthpiece. Buying the simpler OP-AE01MP mouthpiece solved that complaint. The AE-01 comes with a mouthpiece like a clarinet or saxophone mouthpiece. It has a plastic reed that you can bite down on. Biting the reed controls the sound in more expensive models, but does nothing in the AE-01. Using the simple mouthpiece without a reed is much easier for me, and I don’t lose any functionality.Read full review...

Best I could find but not great
I just wish they made sturdier and more impressive stands for wind controllers or, alternatively, more affordable prices on the stand. I could only find the item overseas and given the level of quality I think the price is ridiculous. The materials and safety of the stand are equivalent to a very basic guitar stand - ie your precious and expensive wind controller might topple over if it’s bumped. That being said, the stand fits an AE-10 nicely and I don’t really have any decent alternatives anyway Read full review...

Reasonable purpose-built option
Purchased since it was one of the few purpose-built options for use with EWI that seemed a reasonable price. Found it can also adjust to work with my WX11, my wind controllers seem stable enough in it, the unit is light weight and easy to transport so meets my needs. The controller does sit a bit more upright than I would prefer (EWI is heavy and me just wanting to reduce any chance of bumping and knocking it over). Currently only used at home, no idea yet of durability during gigs.Read full review...

lightweight and compact
Great piece of kit. The instrument stands a bit upright but you can set the bottom support further out on the fork that holds it so it's better plus it has the band that holds it at the top. Would need treating with respect whilst gigging but all in all very very good at the price.Read full review...

brilliant in form function, design and portability
i have had an EWI for several years and have found no uk suppliers who can supply supporting equipment, ie:-floor stand, carrying cases etc.
thanks to E Bay and an excellent supplier from Japan, this is no longer an issue for me.Read full review...

works great just needs a bit more weight in the base.
I am using this with a Roland AE 20 and it fits great. Like others have said it feels a bit unstable. When I gig with it I plan on using a couple of sand / bean bags around the legs and keep it away from the flow on the stage just to be safe.Read full review...
