Great for beginner strobist work. Works great with generic triggers.

I have three of these and use them with cheapo PT-04 flash triggers for strobist work. While the 2800AF only has two powers (full and what I'd guess to be ~1/16), they are great little workhorse flashes. I love them because of the low profile...they don't stand up as tall as a typical flash, even after being mounted on top of a trigger receiver, they point straight into the center of my softbox/umbrella. I typically use two (set at low power) inside one softbox and they recycle almost immediately. I can take more shots then my 16 gig card will allow on a single set of generic rechargeable AAs. Besides the lack of power adjustment, and inability to rotate the head, they do go to sleep quickly (which is annoying if they are inside a softbox). But, for $10-$15 (or less) delivered, a used 2800AF is a GREAT flash to begin learning the basics of off-camera lighting. Be sure to get one that still has the removable diffuser.Read full review...

Awesome substitute for expensive digital flash guns!

With great pleasure I use this legacy flash on a Olympus E-510 DSLR. It is a very cheap, but also very good, substitute for a dedicated digital flash gun.
I use this 2800 model for short distance shots. For the heavier work I have it's bigger brother the Maxxum 4000 (2x),
The are all also very satisfying when used off camera with remote triggers.
If you don't need TTL automatic focusing and such, these babies are highly recommended for use on the Olympus E-series.

Flash works perfectly right out of the box.

Needed a flash in order to revive an old Minolta. When this flash arrived it fit right on my old camera and operated perfectly. Couldn't ask for a better fit. This flash is a great replacement for your missing component of your Minolta 7000. Works perfectly.Read full review...

Solid, full featured flash

I got this to work with my old maxxum 9000 as well as my Sony DSLR (non-integrated with adaopter). Big, but not too big, this is a very good flash with good power and 3 settings and works OTF with the Maxxum film camers using an infared beam to set light distance. A good thing is that it takes AA batteries found anywhere.Read full review...

The 2800 AF Flash is a simple but rugged, durable and effective tool.

I love it, what else can I say? I recently replaced My Minolta Maxxum 7000 & 2800AF Shoe mount flash to replace my original's that were stolen in the 1990's, wanting for collection. I have since caught myself reverting to the fine camera and 2800 Flash rather than newer camera's because they both work well for me.Read full review...
