Good phone the right person.

Ok before I write this review I just want everyone to understand Im a stay at home mom and we do not have a home phone. So I just really needed some thing simple to throw in my purse and use in case of emergencies when Im out. At that point I wasnt really big with using my cell phone for anything other than phone calls and I was rarely doing that and AT&T was killing me with they're 2 year contract and overages.(For my husband and I it was $185.00 a month for 2 android phones) With that being said I chose this phone because it was fairly cheap (Sells for about $35.00 - $55.00) and Virgin mobiles plan ($35.00 a month- 300 mins, Unlimited text & internet) was right up my alley. I really wasn't expecting much from the phone as long as I could call my husband and family I was happy. I have become some what spoiled because I enjoy buying and selling on ebay and there is an app for that as well as paypal and theres also an app for my online banking and I constantly check my emails and facebook. And as for texting I love the fact that this phone has a talk to text option which is really handy. The camera takes ok pictures and the whole phone is very easy to use considering I have a 3 year old and an 8 year old and they can work it just fine. However the screen is kinda hard to text on so this is why I use my talk to text option and the battery life isnt very long so I keep a car charger in the car. there isnt a flash on this phone and you can not download a bunch of app's because there isnt alot of space on the phone its self. So alot of times I find myself deleting the App's I dont really need or use or transferring the ones I want to keep (Or can transfer) over to my SD card. Dont get me wrong I really like this phone. But with everything in life nothing is perfect but it suits my needs for the price and monthly bill.Read full review...

Great phone, worth the money because of the plans offered w/ NO contract!

This phone is overall great. I gave it a 4 stars for features because it is only at android 2.2 and limited and does not have a physical keyboard.

Ease of use was a 5 stars because android itself is very simple to use even for beginners.

Battery life I gave a 2 because when you use the phone in reality it only lasts for about 8-12 hours before the battery dies and that is with only light internet usage and few telephone calls. I do have it set to check email every 5 minutes. The WiFi is on and gps is only on when i use Google maps or similar service.

Value for money a 4 because it is a great phone but one star less than 5 because it wasn't subsidized by a contract thus the phone cost more. But over all its a great deal because your not in a contract with Virgin mobile and its only $25 per month for 300 minutes of talk time and unlimited everything else.

FYI... you can use the hotspot feature on this device even if t says you cannot. You should use with caution because Virgin will slow your internet speed after about 5GB (from what I I read in their terms of service.)

NOTE: Get a hard case for your phone to protect it. I usually never got cases for my phones but it has saved me a lot. I got my nice case for this phone from auctioncell on ebay!

Good phone makes you wonder why you did not get sooner ;-)

Moving on from the LG rumor touch I have to say my third smart phone (after the droid 1 & motorola triumph)is something I am enjoying very much.

I was in the market for a smart phone and being with virgin mobile I tried the motorola triumph which ended up being a big mistake (so i returned that phone).

LG Optimus V turned out to be better

The Good:
Has a nice camera for taking pictures during the day or with lots of light 3.2 mega pix. nothing special but handy.
captures video

responsive the screen & buttons

lots of apps on the android market or now Google market which this phone can handle
good amount of internal space on the phone for apps

works as a music player /mp3 player plays videos

now as for the phone I get a good signal in my area and i can hear the other person clean as i be told.

GPS works great

Has good battery life for a smart phone and bigger battery's can be bought for the phone extending use

Swipe keyboard makes texting easier and faster

Price. 55-80 $ used

The Bad
3G in some cases drops or goes to 1X must be the network.

Virgins 2.5 GB internet it good but why not a whole number like 3.

small but when typing without swipe you end up
pressing the wrong keys.

Some cases battery gets hot! maybe because of me running WiFi hot spot (thanks to quick settings app)

Over all it not the best smart phone but if you don't want to spend a lot of money but want an android phone it better than the motorola triumph & samsung intercept.

I like being able to check my Facebook & email when ever i need too And thanks to this phone i can.

For the money I paid. This phone is great.

I wanted to try a Android phone, but didn't want to spend a lot of money out of the gate. The price I paid was in my range. I wasn't crazy about not having a regular keyboard. But once I got used to the swype key feature. I don't miss the keyboard. The voice to text feature is fine, but you have to speak clearly, and be in a quiet place. This phone surpassed my expectations. Still learning all the features that it has. It's my first smart phone, so I can't compare it to anything right now. My main complain is that the battery life is not the greatest. You have to make sure that all the apps are not on, and the GPS will kill the battery life quickly. But I am happy with the phoneRead full review...

More features, but slightly smaller screen than Apple 3Gs

I got this half price used on eBay & love it (first smart phone). Compared to the Apple iPhone 3Gs, the LG Optimus has Speech Recognition that uses cloud computing so works great, fast, accurate but probably not too secure--the same feature (but maybe with a different provider) is available on the newer iPhone 4S, and with the higher 4G bandwidth of the 4S, it may be possible to encrypt Apple's speech recognition--i dunno. In comparison, the Optimus also has a removable SD card, and dual processors (one CPU, one GPU) (the newer iPhone 4S has dual processors also).

But this Optimus (Optimus V) has no GSM so there is no Sim Card and you can't unlock it to use in Europe, for example. I bought the Optimus V to use with Virgin Mobile in the USA because i can afford that no-contract limited voice but unlimited data plan.

SWIPE (the keyboard entry feature in which you slide from virtual key to key to type a word, then lift your finger to add a space) just doesn't work for me because the Optimus screen is too small for my fingertip size. Fortunately, the standard keyboard entry method is an included option.

I think that the Optimus screen is 0.3" smaller (diagonally) than the iPhone 3Gs, and with my fingers (which are average size for a 6 foot man), i think i would appreciate the (about 1/4 inch?) extra horizontal screen room of the iPhones when using the virtual keyboard (though for everything else, the slightly smaller screen size is adequate in my opinion and with my apps).

If you don't have small finger tips, I would recommend that you get your hands on any Optimus and try out the standard keyboard entry, then compare to an iPhone (the later iPhone 4S model has the same size screen as the iPhone 3Gs).

Note that there is currently no accessories such as a wired or wireless external keyboard, mouse, or monitor for the Optimus. The iPhone at least offers a wired external monitor.

The latest iPhone (at this time--i.e., the 4S) has some additional features, but still no removable SD card. Those features are 4G (even faster web access), upto 64 GB internal memory (costs plenty extra $$ though now) (the maximum Optimus SD card is 32 GB), better antenna logic, Bluetooth 4.0 (saves battery life, size, weight on Bluetooth devices), front camera (videoconference!), and higher screen & rear camera resolution. Apple also has a convenient phone trade-in program (though you can always sell your old phone on eBay).

The SD Cards have different speeds for any capacity--i also bought a 32GB Class 10 SD Card. The included battery has 1500 mah (milliamp hour) capacity, but i also bought 2 extra 1600 mah batteries and a separate battery charger (for an isolated battery), screen protectors, a flexible plastic phone enclosure, and a leather case.

While i'm talking on the phone, i don't want to freak people out when they see the exposed camera lens on the back of the phone inadvertently pointed at them, so i put two short pieces of black electrical tape on the flexible plastic phone enclosure (one piece on the inside, and one piece on the outside), with both pieces directly over the camera hole of the enclosure, and the sticky side of each piece facing the other. Then i pressed the 2 pieces of tape together at the camera hole. The tape stays in place and i just remove the flexible plastic enclosure when i want to use the camera.

The included headset plug has 4 contacts but works in a 3-contact 3.5mm (1/8") stereo receptacle.

I got it for $50, I don't think I'll ever get a better phone deal.

I picked this up for about fifty, so maybe my review is a little biased. Prior to this phone, I had in succession a LG Imprint, then a Rumor Touch, then a Rumor 2. I paid 60, 90, 50, respectively. None of them hold a torch to this phone. My only complaints are lack of physical keyboard, because I am clumsy and have thick fingers, and am too lazy to get a better keyboard app, and battery life could be better, or maybe my internet surfing browsers should be exited when I'm just walking around not using my phone. Did I remember to mention that laziness bit?

The phone does crash. The screen might be too sensitive, or I'm just too clumsy, but sometimes, I hang up on people because my cheek hair brush the screen. There's probably a lock app to prevent that, but I haven't bothered to look.

It's an android phone. There's almost endless free programs to run on it, and at 40 a month, albeit they will throttle me if I go over 2.5gb of transfers per month, this is the best deal I've ever had, and the most enjoyable phone experience ever. Do consider my mileage though. To the person who sold it cheap due to some bad acrylic paint job: thank you. I don't care about the paint job, I care about the functionality, and this one is like night to day with those other piles of crap.

Webpages take seconds to load, not minutes. It synced with all google accounts, my primary source of accounts, in the background without me even noticing. I'm rendering the most awesome screensaver in the world, electric-sheep to my phone's desktop. Granted, I only get 6fps, but not bad and way cooler than some non-moving picture. Unless it's your significant other, in which case I retract my statement and mean no offense.

For those with big clumsy fingers like me - find the app. There's battery app I just installed, which takes care of some issues, but raises others. Mostly it's because I've only owned this thing and had it activated for a week, so I'm still learning it.

The construction itself is very solid, this is a dense piece. Unlike that Rumor Touch, with it's wannabe touchscreen and fischer-price style casing.

I think I've run my fingers enough on this review. Good entry level android phone, no significant drawbacks.

This is great entry level Android smartphone for novice users, good value!

I have been using mine for about 2 and a half months and have only experienced a few issues with it. This phone is great for browsing the web, checking emails, watching streaming videos through YouTube, using Wi-Fi where available, texting, and downloading apps from the Market. It is also one of the best phones that Virgin Mobile offers, and is more affordable than the Motorola Triumph.

Some of the downsides of this phone - It does not support Flash video due to the actual hardware limitations of the phone itself. It's not the fastest phone available but for basics and some advanced functions, it's more than adequate. Some of the applications from the Market may not work with this phone as well, but for the most part I have seen that a majority of the ones I do download work. I have noticed some lag with some programs though, but it's expected since it's not the fastest phone. It has frozen occasionally but in 2.5 months, it's happened maybe 3 times, and one time it restarted after it froze. The camera does not have flash and it really doesn't take the best pictures, but it's good enough. The internal space is limited for downloading certain apps, and some of these larger apps like Google Maps and Facebook take up a significant amount of space and unfortunately cannot be kept on the SD card's memory. At some point, you might have to make a decision on what apps to keep on the phone or delete. The battery life is not the best, but as long as the data connections are controlled, you can make a charge last longer.

I am actually more than surprised with this phone's performance, as I expected it to not be a very good phone. It has surpassed my expectations and would gladly recommend it to anyone. You just have to make it work for you - Google ways to make your phone more efficient and you will be surprised with what you can do with it.

Fun phone, great value.

I bought this cheap phone with VM because their old plan was super cheap. The coverage was so-so, the carrier was annoying, but this phone was awesome. I like it a little better than the newer phone I got because it has the following: tactile buttons, simpler OS, great battery life, very good wifi. There is a "camera" button that activates the camera and lets you snap a photo - a great feature.

The main problem I had was that the built-in storage space was just too small. I kept running out of space due to upgrades and huge data. The email software sucked. Twidroid doesn't do much. I think you can root this and fix all that, but I didn't bother.

Phones good just have to deal occasional freezes, carry your charger around

Bought this product after switching from a sprint monthly plan. I recently had a HTC Hero and i liked it for the most part and thought this was as similiar as I could get. At first I really liked the phone but after a month the battery life starting dying quite fast and the phone kept freezing. I loose internet conection quite often and have to restart the phone. There is times when i will be pressing one button but something other than what im pressing will open. I do think the camera works well tho and I enjoy how the messaging is displayed.Read full review...

hands down best bang for the buck among all virgin mobile phones.

the battery on this thing is a marathon runner compare to other androids. i can easily go a full day without charging with moderate use (text, maybe a phone call, and internet with gps and auto refresh constantly running). the phone is all plastic with a metal frame so this thing although not as stylish as those glassy phones, can take quite a beating. it also doesnt come preinstalled with a bunch of bloatware like the htc wild fire. you can install a ton of apps before this things runs out of space and when it does, you can use the sd card. it doesnt come with apps that run in the background all the time either(though it does come with a few that you can't uninstall but they dont take up that much room and u can shut them off so they dont run)
cons:
-runs android 2.2, so its kinda outdated but it will serve ever function u need. most apps work on it.
-camera has no flash
-metal frame gives it a heavy feel
-vibrations is kinda weak, as with all virgin mobile phones. its not the worst like the rumor 2 but if you are walking, u probably wont feel it shake in your pocket.
-as expected from the low price, its not the best of phones. there are occasional glitches (phone will sometimes restart and lag or freeze) but that could be attributed to the software problem of the android system and not the phone. the screen isnt as responsive as say an ipod touch but at less than half the price, its worth it. simply speaking, all functions work but not as flawlessly as something higher end.
-with the virgin mobile network, internet sometimes gets shuts off without warning for no reason. its pretty reliable for the most part but these black outs do occur. text messages are also affected by this and will sometimes be sent hours later. picture messages sometimes have difficulty sending. its not to the point where its annoying but just something to be expected.
