best BDXL drive on the market
I wanted something that was able to back up as much data on a DVD as possible. So after receiving this, I ended up buring a DVD for a wedding and found out a couple of things. This burner will burn discs that may NOT be able to play in older models. To compensate for it, I ended up burning the disc at a slower speed and POOF... problem solved. This drive is great!!!! Burnt out. Avoid this model. (LG WH14NS40)
Drive would not read any discs. No Blu-ray's, no DVD's or no CD's. I opened it up and the power/SATA connection board had blown a chip. There were no power surges (I have brand new power supply), I simply pulled a DVD drive and put this one in it's place. After removing the bad drive and replacing the DVD drive to where it was the DVD drive functioned normal. Avoid this model if you can. This Blu-Ray works
I popped this into an old 2008 MacPro3,1 and it fires up. The drive works well and I am able to read BR just fine. Playing BR movie is another matter altogether because of all the right protection there. Anyway I am able to read BR disc and read and play DVD no problem. I have the 1.02 firmware one and I read it can even read 4K BR, which I can't confirm just I can't confirm if it can actually play BR movie or burn any discs due to other factors. but sure it can read BR/DVD fine. Look to a different brand for a Blu Ray player.
The player does not play the newest blu rays that came out. Finding out how to change that is near impossible. Went on the LG site and that was not helpful. I bought this so I could watch Blu-Rays on my computer and it looks like I can't. I haven't tried my older blu rays yet.Read full review...

Great drive for price but lacks software
BD drive works great! Read and writes well. Wish it came with BD software though. I had to get a Blu-ray viewer to play Blu-ray movies.
