Leica R7 35mm SLR Film Camera Body Only

R7 - the underrated R

Most people want to buy the all manual R6.2 (indeed I had one in the 1990's), but once you get over the battery dependence, the R7 is actually a more convienient choice.

You get multiple modes and the Program mode works surprisingly well. The slightly larger body is also easier to hold.

Finally, these things are (relatively speaking) cheap. You get an electronically controlled shutter which is far more accurate than the all-mechanical R6.2. You also get more useful LED information in the viewfinder.

Of course the bad news is that if your camera fails then good luck with getting it fixed. Presumably the reason for the cheap asking price.Read full review

Great Build Quality, But

The camera is built extremely well (cost $3000 in 1995) That's almost $5000 in today's money. Because it's all manual, it's not for everyone. But, it's fun to go old school and shoot a roll of film(or slides). The big plus over the R5 is auto DX coding. The only downside to the R7 is that every so often the DOF lever has to be lubricated by Leica service(or camera shop). It's Worth It!!Read full review
