Inconvenienced already.

I wanted a modem of my own and not have to rent from the cable company anymore. I was looking for a modem like the one I had been renting because I had an 8 year history with that modem with very few hiccups along the way. Unfortunately that brand/model was hard to come by NEW, which was another factor I wanted.
I have been involved in tech jobs and specifically cable modems and routers for about 4 years now. I know that Linksys is a wonderful brand with very few problems so I decided to purchase this slightly older model because it has a history of doing well.
I've had it attached to my router for about 2 weeks now and I've already had a "fail". I was working on my wireless laptop, put it aside and when I opened it again 15 minutes later I couldn't get connected to the internet. My computer still saw the router sending a signal but the computer could not associate to it. I turned off my wireless on my smart phone and when I turned it back on the wi-fi failed there too so I knew that it must be the hardware.
After a quick powercycle of the modem and router I was easily connected with all devices again. So, in 2 weeks I was already forced to powercycle?... that's the reason for 3 rating. Inconvenienced already.
Otherwise, this modem is easy to use, the lights are easy to read and the modem lays flat right under the router. Nice product.

There's better out there, but this is best bang for $.

This modem coupled with Comcast provides so-so download speeds and fairly good reliability with VPN connections. It's a very rare event for us to have to power cycle this device to get our internet back. I recently purchased one of these as second unit in case my primary gets struck by lightning, which happened to my neighbor a few weeks ago. My wife and I both depend on our cable modem to work from home so rather than be without or have to fork over retail prices to the Office stores if something did happen to the orginal BEFCMU10. I would to have spend an additional $50 to get a newer motorola that is DOCSIS 3 complient. If you are looking for top of the line download speeds, I rarely see downloads above 900k / sec, I would suggest you look elsewhere. If you only have $20 to spend, than this is probably the best device you can get. The one I'm current using was purchased new in 2005 and still going strong. I had other brands go bad twice in that span of time.Read full review...

is good

There's not much to say... It's a standard cable modem that does the job right. Easy installation, and reliable. I found this at a great price of a little less than $30.00 too.

Definitely get a cable modem of your own if you have cable internet. That way, you don't let the cable companies overcharge you for extra money per month of $5 or whatever for leasing a modem.

Get cable internet if your DSL is not reliable, which was why I switched to cable. DSL speed/connection is dependent on your location, and AT&T was overcharging me for a year for the speed that my location couldn't get!

Compact Design, with a "Do it all" attitude

This is the first I have seen of a Modem, wireless, and router all-in-one package. This is a great concept long overdue. And for anyone not using it.. why? It only uses one power outlet, and creates a central station for all your connectivity solutions. It's design is very similar to other Linksys branded units. And likewise can be mounted on a wall or seated in a couple positions on your desktop. It has that same simple to connect interface. In most cases, all you do is plug it in and turn it on. Your up and running in no time. - I would recommend anyone to buy this.Read full review...

Awesome Alternative.

This item is a really great alternative by Linksys if you want to own your own modem. It works flawlessly and I have even seen a noticeable speed increase. Another positive feature is that you can stack it with other Linksys products like routers to reduce desk space used.

Just plug it is and it works, I didn't even have to use the install CD.

Overall, I highly recommend this item.

linksys modem

This modem works great on my comcast network. There were a few steps that I wasnt aware of. Not bad steps but comcast provider steps. The cable company just wanted to try to have me get there expensive brand. Other than that it works great. no issues and was a heck of a lot cheaper than getting a new modem form the cable company. I'd highly recomend this modem to anyone who doesent want to rent the modem from the cable company.Read full review...

Great modem! Can't beat it for the price!

A great replacement for any company-issue modem. This Modem has supplied my family with ultra-high speed internet for a long time. very simple structure, and very easy to place (unlike Motorola surfboards, it lays instead of stands). The modem dissipates heat quickly and efficiently, making for a snappy internet connection with no modem crash or choppiness. Best combined with other Linksys components (most commonly the WRT54G because they stack perfectly).Read full review...

Good .... while it lasted .. discontinued

Worked fine ... but ONLY for 28 months.
Linksys product quality is NOT what it used to be.

Modem did work fine ( on comcrap ) till one afternoon, it just quit.

Modem was protected by surge protector
(along with the router & laptop).

This item is long discontinued and no longer manufactured.

Hopefully the Linksys CM100 I purchased for replacement
will last much longer.

A good product but don't expect USB support from ISP

Check with your cable or other ISP provider to be sure what models they support. I am using this one with COX in Phoenix but they acted like it was too old, then eventually they hooked me up anyway. I think the problem is that they do not want any USB connected devices... so I assured them I had the Ethernet cable connected and would not use the USB port on this cable modem.Read full review...
