The fab four invade America, 30 years later!

In 1994, 30 years after the Beatles first arrived on American soil, the 30th anniversary of this historic milestone was realised with the release of the double-disc set "Live At The BBC", a unique chapter in Beatles history. Included are brief snippets of spoken dialogue mixed together with a rare treasure trove of classic music - nearly 30 of these songs were never recorded by the group at a proper EMI session, being issued here for the first time. All tracks were aired only on BBC radio broadcasts in the UK, from 1963 to 1965. What is amazing about this album is the significant number of cover tunes they performed which are only available here. Songs from Ray Charles, Chuck Berry, the Coasters, Arthur Alexander, Elvis Presley, the Shirelles, Buddy Holly, Little Richard, Little Eva, Carl Perkins, Larry Williams, Lenny Welch, The Miracles and The Crickets, among others, are well represented in this album, showing a musically diversified area of the Beatles as a superb cover band by paying tribute to other artists that, no doubt, inspired them in the first place. Only one cover song - Carl Perkins' "Lend Me Your Comb" - was not issued in this album, although it should have been. Of course, they also performed recordings of their own material for the BBC: "Thank You Girl", "I Saw Her Standing There", "Can't Buy Me Love", "I Wanna Be Your Man", "All My Loving", "Things We Said Today", "She's A Woman", "I Feel Fine", "I'm A Loser", "Ticket To Ride" and "Love Me Do" are all given first-rate treatment. There is a special version of "Honey Don't" with lead vocals by John Lennon. And, what a thrill it is to actually have the first real Beatles song ("I'll Be On My Way") available after so many years. Subsequently, "Live At The BBC" was Grammy nominated for Best Historical Album, but did not win. "Live At The BBC" is a perfect example of the enduring legacy of the Beatles, presenting them with a very special chapter in the history of their stellar career. It is a definitive "must-have" album for Beatles fans of all ages.Read full review...

The Beatles were the best!

If you like the Beatles you will love this CD. A big reason the early Beatles were so good is that they had fun and liked making music together. They were always practicing and performing and improving their God given talent. Performing live for the BBC you are able to hear how good they really were! Read full review...

You musst own this CD

This is a great CD. Yes it is Mono. Yes, they are live proformances. This is what the Beatles were without all the hype and commercial trappings. Just try and think of a group with as much individual talent ( none of this Supergroup stuff either). Everyone of them sings lead. Everyone of them write music. These guys didn't just show up one day in 1962. They had been playing togather for years before fame. This CD shows how well they fit togather - knew each other. The range of material on this CD remarkable - Rockabilly, country, rhythm and blues, and old standards. If you are older than 55, you must own this CD.Read full review...

Great Live Versions

The BBC has done a fine job of capturing Live presentations of the Beatles without any crowd noise. It makes a real difference while listening to it.

Another addition to my Beatle collection

I like this Cd because it shares a behind the scenes look and listen to how they ham it up inside the studio with the person interviewing them.
It also is an anthology Cd set that I needed to add to my personel collection.
I have all the other anthology series. I just needed this one.
This Cd has alot of music they did in england and music that I had never heard before. The music they have on this Cd was music they did before making it big in the states.

Beatles Live at the BBC

What can you say about this CD. It's the Beatles! We discovered recently that the copy my husband has had for a couple of years was messed up pretty bad and would not play. The finish on the CD was coming off in places and in the places that it was coming off it would not play the music. I bought the CD to replace the one that was messed up.Read full review...
