Fantastic Hummel Collector's Guide

Before I purchased this book, I thought I knew a bit about Hummels since I had been around them my entire life. Boy, was I wrong! When I inherited my mother's meager and battered pieces, I became interested in knowing more about each piece. After checking out numerous other Hummel books, I decided Luckey's Hummel Figurines & Places by Carl F. Luckey (2003) was the best for me. First, it is a revision (the 12th) of a previous Hummel book, so I knew it would likely have the most complete, current information. It has a chapter on the history of Hummel, chapterswith information on collecting Hummels other items made by Goebel (not necessarily Hummels), and a separate chapter on rare and unusual items. It also has several different appendices and reference lists that are easy to use. Each Hummel has its own listing in this 560 page book that includes a bit of history about the particular piece, a black-and-white photograph (sometimes several) of most pieces (even the rare ones), and pricing/valuation information for each version of the figurine. But best of all, it has a wonderful color picture section showing numerous different figurines, ornaments, and other items. If you collect Hummels, you've got to get this book! I think it's the best for the money!Read full review...

All the information you need to buy or list Hummels. It has an alphabetical list of the figurines name , which gives you the Mold Number, and the size. You can then look up the Hummel by the Mold Number, and read other information about it. It shows the Marks, so you can learn which are older ones and which are new. Very Helpful!Read full review...

Great reference guide, but pricing out of date

Very informative but being its over 10 years old you can't go by the prices listed. Good information on how to read markings to tell when it was made, and each one is pictured. .

Luckey's Hummel Figurines and Plates (2003)

I am so happy that I purchased this reference guide as I am increasing my collection of Hummel Figurines. I had not purchased in in about 20 years and I did not have any idea what would be a price range. Everytime I purchase a figurine on ebay (and that has become frequently) I make reference to this guide as to the trade mark, the value, etc., before I make my purchase. I hope that a very current edition will be purblished soon and I hope by this same author. He does an excellent job. Thanks!!!Read full review...

Great reference book for the Hummel collector

I spend hours looking at Ebay goebel hummel products online - and purchasing when I can, but had never really thought about information to better inform me of the many aspects of being a smarter consumer when I purchase a hummel product. I feel very fortunate to have happened onto this book for my home reference. Countless hours have been spent pouring over the pages! The descriptions, pictures, details, etc. are fabulous...highly recommend to anyone that enjoys the little children figurines as much as I do!Read full review...

Wonderfully informative Hummel manual!!!!

This is a wonderful manual, lots of information. I personal believe you would be hard pressed to top this 12th edition of Luckey's Hummel Figurines & Plate by Carl F. Luckey (2003). There is a few color pages, I think the next edition - if it was possible should be printed completely in color. The manual should show differences and variations between similar items, rare and hard to find options. To completely top off this next edition - wouldn't it be wonderful to have the manual priced at the same price as the 12th ed. even with all of the above mentioned upgrades? I would be first in line to purchase a version of Luckey's as described in the above paragraph. Thank you!!!Read full review...

Luckey's Hummel Figurines & Plates by Luckey, 2003

For someone with no knowledge of Hummel's this is a good book to start with. I found the information to be accurate and helpful. The prices are considerably inflated for today's market, or they are insurance replacement prices, as you cannot get the prices they quote. I bought this book to help me list a huge Hummel collection for a friend. A good investment for information, markings, and history but not for prices as people are literally giving their Hummel's away or they've inherited them and don't want them.Read full review...

Great value for a book but shows 95% of items in black and white.

Great book for the price, but 95% of the images are in black and white. Content similar to another book about Hummels.
