MLB 08

What a game. Talk about difficult! I've never seen such a difficult game to play. I have looked at it 3 times now for a total of about 6 or 8 hours and I still don't know how to time the bat or pitch. I've gone through a bunch of the features that can be adjusted or changed and a lot of them don't make any sense to me. I wish it had a tutorial like the game Skate. I bought the Skate game and was doing tricks and skating in 15 minutes.

I really like the graphics. That's about all I can say that I like so far. Why can't swinging the bat be as easy as swinging a golf club in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09. At least the instructions could be more clear as to how to start a game or get some easy practice. I've tried the training module in this game and couldn't even get it to work. I probably spent an hour trying. There should be throwing, catching, pitching, batting and base stealing practice that's easy and intuitive. How can you get good at any of those activities if you can't practice.

I think the game should be real easy to use in rooky mode and harder as you choose to advance to other skill levels. I hope to find some tips on how to play and if I don't I'll probably put this game up for sale on eBay. I refuse to purchase a book to learn how to play. It's just a game!

Additional Information about MLB '08: The Show
Portions of this page Copyright 2001 - 2008 Muze Inc. All rights reserved.

Description
To deliver the closest experience possible, next to actually trying to make it in the Majors, MLB '08: The Show introduces a more immersive gameplay experience. For example in Road to The Show mode, as gamers attempt to make a starting line-up in the Big Leagues, playing on both offense and defense from a custom-created player's perspective, a more robust dynamic goal system and a new career advancement system determines when a player is eligible for a promotion. Additionally, custom-created players are more interactive. As a position player, gamers are able to further adjust that players positioning, catchers endure more defense situations, and pitchers now experience mound visits with user interaction -- all making Road to The Show mode even more realistic.

MLB '08: The Show also boasts new online features, the opportunity to take music stored on a PS3 system's HDD or a Memory Stick Duo and add tracks to the list of music played in the JukeBox, more than 3,000 individual player animations, including personalized stances, pitching animations, individual swings, batting rituals and motion captures from MLB players, and much more.

Special Features
A new Pitcher/Batter Analysis, both in-game and post game, offering a breakdown of how a batter has performed based on LHP or RHP, pitch type and the result

The game offers the opportunity to take music stored on a PS3 system's HDD or a Memory Stick Duo and add tracks to the list of music played in the JukeBox, thus allowing fans to create their own soundtrack

More than 3,000 individual player animations, including personalized stances, pitching animations, individual swings, batting rituals and motion
captures from MLB players

The franchise adds to the realism by including Umpire Personalities combined with Interactive Hot and Cold Zones and Player-scaled Strike Zones, Release Point Pitching combined with Adaptive
Pitching Intelligence (API) and the Pitch Command System (PCS), and the most comprehensive commentary ever produced for a sports title, featuring the
three-man booth of Rex Huddler, Matt Vasgerian and Dave Campbell

The Progressive Batting Performance featurewhich
rewards players for superior performance and penalizes them for hitting slumps

Adding to the online feature set, which includes
customizable Online League Play with up to 30 teams, scrolling MLB Score Ticker and more, the game introduces SCOUT (SportsConnect Online User
Tracking), which allows gamers to set and store their game preferences on the MLB server, and then enables the system to look for a Quick Match with
opponents that fit similar competitive criteria

Best baseball game I've ever played!

MLB '08 The Show is hands down, the best MLB game made in years. The game has everything you could possibly want. The road to the show mode allows a fresh faced kid to try out for a team during spring training and dependinon how well you do you get offered a contract with either the teams AA or AAA team (each team has both AA and AAA teams with full rosters in the game!) Then you work your way up by training and eventually you might get to be a starting pitcher or whatever or even move up to the bigs!

There's plenty of other modes you'd expect and the game is just plain well done. The gameplay is top notch and the graphics are beautiful. I really gotta say this is the best $50 bucks I've spent on a sports game in many years.

Trust me, if you're a baseball game fan you cannot go wrong with this game. One of the best reasons to own a PS3. The list of must have PS3 games is growing big time and with blue-ray firmly the winner they are selling like hotcakes, so take the plunge you will love it, esspcially with games like this out there!

MLB '08: The Show (Playstation 3)

I love this game. My favorite part is the Road to the Show feature. It's somewhat realistic but it's fun to build yourself up. Another fun part in the Road to the Show feature is the advancement periods. It's weird though you could get all of the goals in 7 advancement periods in a row and you still wouldn't go to the next level of play as in AA or AAA. The only thing I don't like is when you simulate in Franchise mode. The computer spends so much money especially when you need the money. Franchise mode is still fun though. It's great to trade away players for better players. I have the best rotation in the game with Sabathia, Santana, Webb, Hamels, and Arroyo. I don't necessarily like playing as my farm teams, but it's cool to have that feature if you like the AA or AAA teams. You can do a lot of things to help you achieve your goals in Franchise Mode whether it's focusing your scouts on certain players or using all of your training points. It's a very good game, and I recommend it 100%.Read full review...

The Best Baseball Game for 08

I never give games an excellent unless they are hard, fun and can`t put it down, or just plain very good. Yes the graphics are great, but the real challenge is from 07 to 08 is "The Road to the Show". In 07 you can make it to the Majors in 2, or 3 hours. In this game I played for 4 days and still didn`t even get called up to triple A. I even went to 'Game Ceats" on how to make it. The game itself is like madden football. Great all around. This baseball game is the best I have played. I have not played 09, but I will. This game you should pick up for no more then $18.00.Read full review...

Swing Away!

great graphics! smooth gameplay and updated rosters online. You can't go wrong with this game. While batting you can guess the pitch and improve your chances of getting a hit. Another fun part of the game is "welcome to the show" where you can advance from A to AA to AAA to the big Show. In this mode you are put into situations in a game, but you only play those situations, not the whole game. According to how you handle those situations you move up in the organization. I havent played the franchise or dynasty mode yet, but it looks great!Read full review...

Sony's MLB series still the top dog

The game is a baseball simulation in which, depending on the gameplay mode, the player controls one or all of the players on a Major League Baseball team or some select Minor League Baseball teams. Depending on the gameplay mode, the player may control a team for a single game, season, or franchise, and can also create a player and control his career.

Its play on the field is where MLB 08 shines the most. Everything--the pitching, hitting, fielding, animations, and atmosphere--is sublime. Hitting is similar to what it was last year. You can guess pitch type and location, and are rewarded with a red indicator just before the ball is delivered if you guess correctly. There are two swing types: power and contact. Initially you may find yourself swinging at every pitch with a power swing, but you'll quickly find that picking the proper swing for each situation is paramount to your success as a hitter. What MLB 08 really gets right about hitting is the timing; there's just enough time between when the ball is released and when it gets to the plate to determine what kind of pitch it is and if it's a ball or a strike. This might sound insignificant, but it's something very few baseball games get right. From frozen ropes to ground-rule doubles to seeing-eye grounders, there's an incredible variety of hits, and what's more, they all come off the bat naturally, which is yet again an area in which other baseball games have difficulty.

Instead of adding new content or reinventing the wheel, the developers at SCEA San Diego refined things they were already doing right, and in the process made a great game even better. Hitting, pitching, and fielding all look and feel fantastic. There's no shortage of ways to stay busy, whether you want to run a whole team, follow the career of a single player, or manage a game from the dugout. It's a shame that, even after another year in development, Road to the Show isn't quite as refined as the game's other aspects, but it's still an interesting mode that generally manages to be enjoyable in spite of its flaws. If you're looking for a great baseball game that covers all the bases, look no further than MLB 08: The Show.

MLB THE SHOW 08

Okay lets start this off by saying I really hate how bad the PS3 is doing and well I was going to sell it on Ebay, but not no more. I purchased this game and well it is amazing. The graphics of this game are some of the best. The game play is also amazing with updated rosters it is great. I played through the Road to the show for about 4 seasons and well I have to say that it is really fun to see your created player playing in the world series. Overall this is a must buy. I know 09 is out now but if your looking for a cheap alternative buy this game.

Pros:
-Graphics are amazing
-Updated Rosters
-Road to the Show is a great Game play mode

Cons:
-Not many at all but the one thing that I found over time is that players to tend to make errors that shouldn't have been made and that there are some bugs with players going for the ball. But dont worry about these they dont always happen I played through four seasons and I maybe encountered these problems around 10 times.

Best Baseball Game yet...

If you're like me, you probably read all the reviews before buying a baseball game for this year. I did - and they all pointed to MLB 08 The Show. Now, I know why. The game is just so fluid smooth with no noticeable lag and the graphics are just beautiful. This game is almost perfect. The only noticeable flaw is the collision mechanics. You see baserunners slide right through the 2nd baseman or shortstop.

The AI creates some pretty realistic scores and games, keeping things exciting. Hhopefully, my skills don't get so good that I just homer everything later on...as for now, Veteran mode is pretty good. This is a great game and the best sports game I've played this year.

MLB 08: The Show for PS3 is amazing...

Anyone who likes baseball will LOVE this game. I am very picky when it comes to sports games and I have a certain game I buy every year each sport, like football, basketball, hockey, baseball, and soccer... I used to play the MVP series that ea sports had for baseball, until they stopped making it in I think 2004...Well, the MLB 08: The Show is the closest to it. I've played 2k8 and it doesn't compare. I LOVE this game. Gameplay, Franchise mode, everything. Definite MUST buy for any baseball loving gamer. Trust me, it's worth it.Read full review...
