Madden 07, Close but no cigar

I just picked up this game on Friday after work and for the most part it's a solid game. They really haven't added many ground breaking features to the series so if you are familar with 2006, the jump to 07 Shouldn't be that hard.

Madden 2007 Introduces a couple minor features which make picking up the game a bit more easy. The first is the new kicking strucutre. Instead of pressing X twice, the new kicking scheme uses the analog stick to control the kick. This has made kick field goals enormously easier.

Audibles have also changed in madden with the new game displaying the audible choices on the screen instead of being hidden. This allows newbies to call plays on the fly just like the pros.

NFL 07

Madden NFL 07 might just be the most unique take on the long-running football franchise ever seen. The control scheme, which takes extensive advantage of the Wii's wireless controller and Nunchuk attachment make the game more interactive and visceral than you might expect, and, even better, the game includes all of the single-player modes found in the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions. The game will also include a trio of multiplayer minigames that aren't found in the other versions of Madden, and they just happen to be one of the best aspects of the Wii version. We got a chance to try out the three minigames, in some cases multiple times, during a recent demo session with the folks at EA Sports.

Though minigames are nothing new to the Madden franchise, those found in the Wii version have never been seen in the series before. The trio includes Two-on-Two, Kicking Combine, and a mode called YAC Attack. All can be played with up to four players on the same Wii console, and in some cases, two players can join together to take on the computer.

The first minigame we played, Two-on-Two, featured two players per team in a series of wide-open passing and catching that played a bit like your old schoolyard pickup games. The goal here is to score as many touchdowns as you can for each of the five plays of your round. Should you intercept a ball and run it back to the opposite end zone, you get two points. Each team gets a set number of downs per round, with one player acting as the quarterback and the other acting as the wide receiver. On the defensive side of the ball, one player controls a defensive back and the other plays as a linebacker, rushing the quarterback. Just like the old-school games, there is a set amount of time before the linebacker can cross the line of scrimmage to rush the QB, counted off in "Mississippi's" that flash up on the screen (as in One Mississippi, Two Mississippi, and so on). Once you get to the set number of Mississippi's, the linebacker can cross the scrimmage line and lay a beatdown on the QB.

During Two-on-Two, every player will get multiple chances to play every position. In the first round, you might play quarterback on offense and linebacker on defense. In the next round, you'll play as a wide receiver on offense and a defensive back when playing defense. Your responsibilities, naturally, change depending on the position you're currently playing. As a wideout, for example, your job will be to get open, running whatever kind of route you wish. When the ball is thrown your way, you'll have to manually catch the ball by motioning up with the two controllers simultaneously. Your quarterback, on the other hand, will have a few moments to wait before he's under pressure; once the wideout is open, he'll toss the ball by pressing forward with the Wii controller. The power you put behind the Wii controller "throw" motion will determine the type of throw you make. A quick motion will make for a bullet pass; a slow movement will result in a lob pass.

Madden 07

This game is pretty good and i have to say that im impressed.but some downfalls are in superstar mode the CPU picks your plays and that makes it tough on your player if you want to keep intrest in the game at least get your player involved!jeeeez!I also like that you have a goal in superstar mode (to get into the hall of fame)and in 06 u didnt. i love lead blocking and i get to run people over to make way for my great ground game. the camera rite next to your player in superstar mode is an added bonus and you fell like your controlling everything about them this game also has great graphics!! the fields are truly stunning and the rain and snow are nice 2. this game is a great one but i think that madden o6 had better controls and features but 07 has better graphics and more customization and it goes a little bit more in depth in the game a truly great buy not worth 50 bucks though wait till the price drops CANTON OR BUST!!!!!Read full review...

GOOD BUT NOT THAT GOOD!

The Good
The Graphics: For some reason EA decided to make Madden 2004 really dark. The 2005 version was much brighter, and much better. Madden 06 is even better. It is unbelievably good.

NFL Superstar: This was the feature that really excited me. It's fun; it's addicting, and you have no control over anything.

The Little Things: There were several small things that made the game better. For example, when you select what school your Superstar attended, the list of schools scroll by really fast, making it much quicker to find the desired school.

The Bad
QB Vision: I know a lot of you out there like it, but I'm just not patient enough to use something like that in a video game. The plus for me is, you can turn it off.

New Controls: There are some new controls this year, particularly on defense. The X button is now sprint instead of 0, but once again, you can change it to Madden 2005's controls.

The Ugly
NFL Superstar: Wait, wasn't this in "The Good," section? Yes it was, but there were too many problems with it. My Superstar is a QB who was drafted in the third round. Only three agents were interested in me, but I did get a movie offer before my first preseason game. This is still my favorite part of the game, but there's way too many imperfections. I expect it to get better in the years to come.

Madden 07 PS2

Usually each year Madden gets better and better...Well not this year. Pretty much everything offline is about the same, there is some nice new Running back moves but other then that everything is about the same as last year. That is not a big deal to me, Madden is a great game every year and it is very fun, the reason I do not give this a 5/5 is because of the Online play...it is terrible. I love to play good games online, its the main reason I buy madden. But this years madden has way to many glitches online and half of the games get disconnected. Hopefully next years madden gets some new offline additions and the online play gets fixed. If you like football games I still suggest getting it, I still play it but expect some frustration if you plan to play online because you WILL get disconnected alot :(Read full review...

Madden's saga continues

For those who are aware of the greatest video game for football lovers, one can expect more of the same features from last years 06 version. With the exception of new camera views, new ways to execute certain segments of the game, and this years updated line-up for the NFL's greatest. One can play for hours, days, and months of building teams, and star players. My fault with the game is the typical "Maddenism" that can drive one crazy at times; this refers to the cpu's way of "learning" the typical outcome of two teams matched up. For instance your playing the game and your running back drops the ball twice, and your like "whoa my running back never drops the ball like that", so you quit the game thinking alright I'll be able to start the matchup afresh, wrong more than likely you will carry on that same "drop the ball twice attributes" against that team to validate the so called matchup.

Overall its still the best football game that exist, Good buy!

More features, yeah!

I've been playing the game since it came out later summer '06 and each time I play, I find a new feature, I love it! But on the flipside, they haven't really done too much the the graphics, same is the past few years.

Superstar mode this year, you are trying to get into the hall of fame, which is a big upgrade from last years superstar mode. The superstar mode controls are much different, and I believe are more realistic to what the players go through in real life.

Blocking and running are the key points in this game, the QB vision is still on there, but the game is highly focused on the run game.

Great game.

The madden curse lives on!

Best Yet

Overall this is the best Madden yet.

Upgraded graphics make the stadiums jump out at you, a vast improvement from those in years past. The players faces are a little dull but unless you are more concerned about the replay than the actual game it really is not an issue.

NFL Superstar mode is dangerously addictive. From choosing your parents, to your position, to your school, you really get into this game mode.

There is a lot of music on this version too so after 9 hours on Saturday of playing you can switch up the tracks and can choose from dozens so you'll always have something new to hear as you wait for loading.

Some players still are without faces on the players photos but similar to earlier, unless you care more about having the correct picture to look at in the player management screen than you do the actual game play it won't be an issue.

Well worth the money, and I bought it new.

Madden 07 for PS2

First of all I am going to start of with the rosters. I love that the rosters are updated to the day before the game came out. All the people who were in the draft is in the gave. The stats and ratings of each player is about correct on how they prefrom on the actual field.

Second thing I want to talk about is the graphics. I really like the graphics. It is a big imporvement from the 2006 game. The Arenas look exactly like they do in real life.

Third thing is the controls. I like that you can change the controls to the Madden 05 setting because they controls are horrible. After playing this game for 4 hours I'm still confused. I also very dislike the kicking meter, what's up with that? I think they should of left the Madden 06 kicking meter.

Upgrades - Few upgrades. I like the updated NFL Hall of fame mode. I wish they had a better create an arena or let you be able to set ticket prices for the season but that is not in this game. Some other improvements I like in this game is the offseason. It may take foreever but I like that free agent signing is before and after the draft. I love the new scounting too.

Overall I would rate this game a 4.5 out of 5 because I don't like some of the gameplay and not many upgrades.

Some Problems Buyer Beware

Madden 07 is a good game in some areas. The camera angles in SS mode is zoomed on your character so it makes playing a little awkward but you might get used to it if you play for a while. The graphics are the same as Madden 06 I would've liked to see EA improve them. In Franchise mode its almost identical to Madden 06 except when it comes to Rookie Scouting. You put the rookies through drills to unlock certain attributes. The new Highlight stick lets the running backs perform jukes cutbacks and power moves. Overall It is fun to play with a few problems if you are thinking about buying it I would say that you should rent it first so you can see if the problems bug you or not. Also the game tends to corrupt memory cards when playing in Superstar or Franchise mode. The corruption affects the whole memory card and renders it useless. EA refuses to acknowledge this, stating that you can go into the PS2 Browser and delete the corrupted save file (which is true in some cases), however, at this time, they refuse to acknowledge that the game can corrupt an entire card. Although EA says it can be deleted you can take your chances if you want I was unable to delete the corrupted files from my memory card and had to buy another although i am still able to save my Madden on the memory card i can not save anything else so buyer beware.Read full review...
