Megellan RoadMate 300 GPS

Didn't have manual for unit upon purchase, no problem found manual on internet. Unit is not updateable. Worked good on two day trip wife and I took. Only had a problem one time with it not updating to where it was. Turned unit on while driving down road, it though we were still setting at hotel. Restarted unit and started to work properly. Doesn't have all of the features that some of the new GPS units have but get the job done. Did not get us lost, even made proper corrections when we turned off course on purpose. Magellan RoadMate 300 Car GPS Receiver

The RoadMate 300 that I purchased is a regional GPS with a map of the Western Region. I purchased this in hopes that maps of the other regions especially the Southeast would be available. Well, these things are hard to locate and Magellan no longer carries the maps for this device. Needless to say I am unable to use the GPS so I am keeping it to give as a Christmas present for my brother-in-law that lives in Oklahoma.

Since this time I have purchased a Garmin nuvi260 and am very please with it. Unfortunately, I will continue to use Garmin's products vs. Magellan's due to the customer support service that Magellan is lacking.Read full review...

3 years of daily use

I have the Roadmate 300 for 3 years now. I use it almost daily. I have no problem connecting to the satellite. The unit connects almost immediately.
It gets confused sometimes but always gets me to my destination (or within 1/2 block). I have the Northeast US map that came with the unit. Last year when I travelled the east coast down to Florida I was able to download maps for the southeast as I drove down. The internal memory isn't too big so I had to do it twice. The process required my laptop and wifi connection but I was able to travel the east coast without getting lost. Best use is for the region you have the map card for.Read full review...

Likes: this unit is compact for its age and has both button and touch screen controls.
Dislikes: this unit is outdated, maps need to be uploaded as needed, magellan does not readily offer maps for this product anymore and there service department is no help. This unit is prone to having charging problems due to a pin in the charge port that wears and breaks easily.

Everyone should have one!

I was looking for a cheap, basic, model that would get me where I wanted to go. This Magellan Roadmate 300 does just that. I received it the day before I went on a 10-hour drive to Virginia and typed in the directions with no back-up plan. It took us straight to the front door of the Hotel.
