Makita DTW1001/1002 still da Dogs Blocks

Forget the rest, this Makita is the dogs.
I had borrowed a friends before, did a test on a rusted on towbar bolt, and it breezed the nut off through all the way up 1" long rust encrusted exposed threads. I finally treated myself to my own wrench, for a suspension job on my BMW. Sadly, 1st time in action and it rounded one of the wheel bolts which had been rattled up way too tight at a tyre place, then torque checked!
I had a look at the latest Makita 40v one, but they are even bulkier and heavier than this 1001/1002 series, so I figured 1600Nm nutbusting torque would be sufficient for most vehicle work.
It's a personal choice, but I opted for the 1002 with the 1/2" sq drive, as I'd need the adapter for the 1001 with 3/4" drive, and I don't have any 3/4 drive sockets anyway.
Remember you need half decent quality black heavy wall stronger sockets with an impact wrench of this power, save the cheaper crappy sockets for forcing undersized sockets over problem/half-rounded bolts.
Oh, and don't use a powerful impact wrench with the spiral flute sockets with LH thread designed for rounded nuts, as this easily shatters these sockets.

Nut buster.

Really great product much better than my old one. Used it on my car front suspension, it removed all the nuts and bolts on the lowest setting. I was really impressed with the torque. Best bit of kit i have bought in years. Would highly recommend.Read full review...

strong, quality item with thread ripping torque

very powerful and robust, well built, this makes it quite heavy if you were using it all day long, but fine in short bursts. more torque than most people would need.

Marita.

Haven’t used it much in the short time I’ve had it but I can say it’s very powerful! I haven’t found 1 thing it can’t undo yet and I work in the HGV industry. Even undone some truck wheel nuts. Great product. Read full review...

Big bertha

I've held back on buying a battery impact gun till I seen this one its probably heavier than most others but been using it for a week now+the windy gun is second best so far. Build quality is very good performance is outstanding with good battery life using 5ah batts. I'm in no doubt that it will slacken the usually stubborn hub nuts+front crank shaft bolts that give me grief in my daily jobs as vehicle mechanic+so far would highly recommend although it's size might prove awkward on some tight suspension work...love it+always looking for an excuse to put it to work.Read full review...

a beast.

if you are looking for an 1/2" impact gun that will remove anything then this is the gun for you. i have makita kit so had the charger and batterys which it comes without. i made the mistake of buying a couple of cheaper options inc a cheaper makita gun and i couldnt remove wheel nuts with them. this loostens everything i have threw at it on a car. a beast.

its big, its heavy, but it works beyond expectations. 10/10

bust those nuts !!

you could dismantle the fourth road bridge with this thing it's build quality is great and with 1000 nm of torque bolts come off like they were hand tightened ! it's a bit heavy and is about the same size as an electric drill so you might not be able to reach nuts or bolts where space is limited but a great addition to your tool setRead full review...

Great Impact tool !

A very good tool for those hard to undo nuts. With an impresive 1600nm or 1180 ft/lbs of undo torque if this cannot undo your stubbon nut then you need to gas cut them off.

Heavy but powerfull.

Works as well as any air impact wrench of a similar size, and have not found anything it would not undo yet.
Bit heavy, but the speed it works you dont need to hold it for too long.

As it is so powerful you do have to be careful of not overtightening wheel nuts, even on the lowest setting.

If i had one negative, the ring on the front of the drive doesn't hold onto sockets very well and bigger impact sockets can fall off.

Excellent cordless wrench, excellent Makita build quality, makes tough bolts a doddle and speeds up fastening wheel studs or fixings.
