Ragpicker's Dream is simply an amazing work from Mark Knopfler. A must have

I am a huge fan of Mark Knopfler. He is an incredible musician and his ability to tell stories and
create an intimate experience for the listener is simply remarkable. I have ever album that Mark has done from his Dire Straights years to his solo career. Mark is able to take the listener for a ride that won't be forgotten. I can't recommend this album or any of the other albums by this
magnificent artist. My advice is buy all the Mark Knopfler albums. I have found that the Lps as well as the CDs have gone up in price. When I first purchased this album when it came out is was under 30 dollars on vinyl. A number of sellers are asking well over two hundred dollars for the album because it's out of print.

Knopfler's brilliance is shown again

Good, clever lyrics. Knopfler uses rhyme well and doesn't just use it for the sake of using it. He doesn't let rhyming take away from the story he tells in the songs. As usual the guitar lines are nice and musicianship is top notch as to be expected on anything by the guitar god and perfectionist. There are some offbeat songs and some real gems like the rousing opener 'Why Aye Man' and the quirky 'Quality Shoe'. It probably needs a couple of listens to appreciate fully the beauty of the album. It is well worth buying. The bonus cd of live tracks including the live video of 'Why Aye Man' is also excellent and shows how Knopfler can really get a crowd going with his energy and gift for live performing. Sheer brilliance.Read full review...

Mark Knopfler - Ragpicker's Dream

Superb guitar playing (as you'd expect) and a fresh set of songs in the main which have a folky/folksy feel but avoid any of the plaintive self pity of the worst of that genre. Fun , undemanding stuff to listen to and good enough to get me digging around for more of his solo workRead full review...
