For a lead boost with fantastic tone this pedal can't be rivalled

Originally planned on Ibanez alternative but read reviews online and considered this a good option. Ordered it entirely on reviews and price, when I received it I could not have been happier with the product.

The maxon pedal was built like a rock and was ready to go as soon as the adapter and leads were plugged in. The pedal is easy to use and very easy to get a good tone out of. The book supplied has a few good tone suggestions but i tinkered with them to get the tone i wanted.
I like to use it to round out a clean tone and amplify it, but I mainly purchased this pedal to use to boost my guitar for leads.
The extra gain supplied when added to either of my other distortion or OD pedals makes my Seymour Duncan equipped Les Paul absolutely scream. It doesn't sound too "gainy" at lack of a better word, but provides a great tube amp sounding bottom end to give it phenomenal intonation and clarity even with fast playing.
On it's own with the gain turned up it can provide a fantastic bluesy rock tone however I would prefer if more gain adjustment was available to access a more aggressive sound without the need for a separate pedal.
Compared to a Ibanez TS-9 anniversary pedal I'd tried before I found it had less gain but very similar in tone. Dollar for dollar I'd consider this a superior option for a budget musician as $300+ for an Ibanez Tubescreamer is more than many guitarists I know can afford.

Maxon OD 808..

Wow ! What a nice sounding pedal..slightly smoother than the Ibanez TS 808,,which i think they call transparent,, great quality sound that adds that extra dimension to my effects pedals..having both of these pedals is a great way to go..if you can afford the close to $500..price range,,i really enjoy the Maxon OD 880 as well a bit cheaper 2nd hand and a bit more throaty,,than the 808,s,,but u cant go wrong getting the OD 808..Read full review...

Worth every cent.

I bought my 808 to use with a fender twin that I added celestion speakers to. I wanted a punchier sound than I was getting with my Boss OD1 Super Overdrive. The effect is stunning. It adds a tone similar to a high gain tube amp. It is very effective on its own, and I also use the OD1 in conjunction as a step up pedal for those 'big' solo's. Some care needs to be taken with that to avoid too much gain, but the overall effect is outstanding with excellent harmonic feedbacks and a great tome. I used the rig with my Gretsch G6128T and it was awesome.Read full review...
