It's a tube screamer. Simple. Useful.

I was previously using a BBE Green Screamer, a discontinued clone of TS808, and I had no issue with it; but the pedal enclosure is bigger than a typical MXR size and I was running out of space on my board, so I decided to get the Maxon OD808. From what I've researched the Maxon is actually closer to the Ibanez TS10 spec-wise. I have no idea if the Maxon does sound like an Ibanez TS10, but I do know that compared to the BBE the Maxon is slightly warmer. Noise level is about the same: minimal. The BBE features true bypass, while the Maxon has a buffered bypass, but from what I can tell the buffered bypass does not seem to add brightness which I've noticed with other buffered bypass pedals. Overall, I'm satisfied and I would recommend the Maxon to others looking for a tube screamer without a boutique price tag.Read full review...

Tight, Smooth, and Aggressive

The Maxon OD808 Overdrive pedal is a very good tool at a very good price. I bought this pedal in order to tighten up the front end of my Mesa Boogie Mark V, and it did just that. This pedal will not replace the overdrive/dirty channel of your amp. It's the type of pedal that you buy to help tighten up the front end of your amp's overdrive/dirty channel, and to help bring out the dynamics and tracking of your playing style. Given this is only the second "OD" pedal I've ever bought, I find that it does quite a good job at doing what it's supposed to. The bypass on it is transparent as well, which a good thing. I give this pedal a 4/5 because it's not magical, but it is consistant at keeping things nice and tight.Read full review...

Maxon OD808 is my first real overdrive. good value!

This overdrive can be described as clean, has nice tone, and is great value for an over 100 dollar overdrive pedal. The sound has lots of mids and sounds controlled. I usually used a boss super overdrive and this one sounds quite similar. It just sounds cleaner. less hair in the midrange and top end. It's also less bright. This is good for pushing a distortion pedal or amp into high gain. The midrange has punch and sounds like it has nice quality going for it. Read full review...

Great OD for all type of music

i have mesa boogie triaxis preamp with t.c. g-major attached, fifty/fifty poweramp and mesa boogie roadster 2x12 cabinet. I've tried several OD and distortion pedals and this has been my final choice. wanna transperant overdrive which doesnt change the guitar and amp character? this is the best one. I'm using it with all channels of triaxis (including lead channels for Metal sounds!)Read full review...

Awesome pedal! Great effect for its price!

I've bought this pedal as a volume/gain boost, and all I can say - it's great in that role. It gives incredible warmth to the sound, and with it - incredible clarity and smoothness. I use it with Fender American Doublefat Stratocaster and Peavey Rockmaster Preamp, in that rig the sound is very clean, no noise or unwanted dirt.

The only possible minus of the pedal is battery changing - to change batteries you have to unscrew 4 screws and take off backplate, but I use the pedal with power unit, so it doesn't matter for me.

As I think every guitarist who plays hard or heavy MUST at least try this pedal, its sound worth it.

Great Pedal!!!!!

This pedal brightens your sound to achieve just the right crunchiness. The OD808X’s pick responsiveness and dynamics are impressive. The OD808X proves that even after all these years, there’s still plenty of room to tweak Maxon’s timeless 808 overdrive. The pedal is a fantastic tool for tightening the low end of a driven amplifier and adding top-end presence without excessively coloring the tone. It also delivers a pretty fantastic low-gain overdrive when used with cleaner tones. For players looking for an 808-style overdrive with a little extra “oomph,” the OD808X Overdrive Extreme is an excellent—even dangerous—way to go. You can dial it in to not dirty your sound as a boost if you so desire. You cannot go wrong. I have quite a few of them and love them!!!Read full review...

I like the saturation smooth and creamy!

I bought this product because it is a classic! Maxon was who originally fabricated the famous ibanez tube screamer of the 70's and 80's, Ibanez though currently holds the rights to the name of tube screamer.
I like the saturation smooth and creamy. The perfect complement to bring the valves of your amp to another level!
While many people think that this kind of pedals do not change the color of the sound of your amp, do, but for good. They have a low-pass filter and slightly emphasize the mids to make your guitar stand out in your band. Best price and quality overdrive pedal!
