Strange, sad, arthouse

This was a strange movie and would probably make more sense the second time around. When you watch it, assume everyone knows the world is going to end right from the very beginning of the movie.

Kirsten Dunst brings her "A" game to a world of Melancholy.

Melancholia is the second film of Erik von Trier's "Depression Trilogy"
I originally saw this movie on SBS Television and just had to purchase the DVD. It has a very melancholy mood throughout the film (hence the name)and at times, quite bewildering storyline. Only in the final act do we at last understand the background story to the film.
The interaction bewtween the family members is at times exruciating to watch and some of thier final actions painful and touching.

Kirsten dunst's peformance alone is worth the purchase price of this DVD.

If you are looking for a high action film or love story, then buy Fast and Furious or Pretty in Pink.
This film is definately for those who can cope with long periods of quiet drepessed brooding interspersed with sharp manic ravings.

Definately 2 thumbs up from me.
