This is a merit badge pamhplet (MBP) from the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Merit badges are subject-related areas that Boy Scouts can learn about & the pass requirements off to earn a patch. There have been several different types (particularly the covers) of MBPs over the years.

Stamp Collecting is a popular elective merit badge. Stamps & the BSA have a long history together. The BSA has been featured on several stamps. New stamps are issued each year and although some of the techniques for collecting have remained the same, some of the discussion about the hobby has changed, hence the need for updated versions of the pamphlet, including this 2000 version.

The manual is a good introduction to the topic & might be helpful for anyone starting to collect stamps, not just Boy Scouts. The manual is used by Scouts learning the badge, as well as counselors that sign off on the badge when the boys complete the requirements. I collected stamps, years before I started collecting BSA manuals, but did not take the time to get the merit badge.Read full review...
