Have not yet watched entire set of discs. What I have seen is a significant upgrade from the DVD format although some scenes are grainy. Usually night scenes. Entertaining but problems with sound
Perhaps just a DVD version of this series would be a better choice... it wasn't filmed with HD cameras anyway, and any surround sound processing has times where it sounds like it's in a barrel.
It's a good entertaining show, however, and I would recommend it in that regard.

This is a huge upgrade from the DVD set, which I also own. This BluRay version is in 24P, which gives it a film like look when compared to the DVD version. As others have noted, some of the night scenes appear grainy. That is only because of the high speed film stock used in night shooting. The grain is definitely within acceptable range and not bothersome. The daylight scenes are pretty sharp and clear.
As to the sound quality, the menu allows you to select 2 channel or surround. I chose the two channel (Dolby 2.0), and have not noticed any issues with sound. In fact, I would say the clarity of sound is a huge improvement over the DVD version.
All in all, watching the BluRay version is a whole new experience. It is also a much better experience.Read full review...

Terrific audio and visual updates make the series look even better than it did in the 80s. The show itself ages very well and is not typical of other shows released during its time. It feels like you're watching something that was written today; a story about two cops, and the corrupt streets of Miami in the 80s. I've gotten through season 1-2 and it's great.
