Great product. Very nice cheaper alternative to a touch screen laptop.

I bought this product for uni. I love windows 8 and I wanted a touch screen windows 8 laptop, but they were simply too expensive. It does what I want it to do absolutely beautifully and mine was a bargain. It came with Office RT, so I didn't have to pay anything more. There's nothing I dislike about my surface (which I have given an original nickname, "Mr. Surface") other than the touch cover. It took a bit to adjust to it, and it's difficult to type with on solid surfaces (like the lecture room tables). I'm going to buy a type cover which will fix this.Read full review...

The best Tablet in the market

The USB socket makes it the best tablet ever.
I needed to use USB for various applications and so far no one had this facility.
The screen touch system is fabulous though it needs some learning but once used to it it is great.Read full review...

Amazing tablet, restricted by limited microsoft apps

Great tablet! Clear graphics, quick processor easy to use and handle. Has a number of great features, micro hdmi output, the magnetised keyboard, great cameras and speakers. Only down side is windows rt (the OS) is limited with applications from the store. Microsoft has taken after apple with restrictive policies on software development only allowing Microsoft created or approved apps, however they have not been in the market long enough to approve or make more interesting or better functioning apps, they also do not have apps from competing companies e.g. Mozilla Firefox, Google drive, many other smaller popular apps. Also, apps that would replace a website i.e. Facebook, Wikipedia, Google search, function poorly and are usually slower than using internet explorer itself (yes, seriously, IE is faster than something). There is no sim input for mobile internet access either. As I simply needed this for the internet and Microsoft office for education, this is a great tablet for that, it would also be great for tablet gaming! If I could put an android OS on this thing it would be the perfect.Read full review...

windows/facebook users this is your machine, google users beware..

this tablet has some really nice features and some really annoying features. If you want a good platform to use gmail or google calendar this is not your machine. Out of all the aps that this lacks vs the apple store or google play this annoys me the most. Lack of a dedicated sim card port for mobile data annoys me less because I use it primarily in wifi area's and if I don't have access to wifi I tether it to my phone which works well enough for my purposes. I like that it has a full size USB port and Micro hdmi, and the word and excel programs work pretty well as well. build quality is good and I really like the split screen capability. I should say that it also integrates really well with facebook and if you have a windows 8 PC it will match backgrounds and it matches your loginscreen and profile picture to facebook which I kinda like, but probably doesn't matter in the long run.Read full review...

Surprisingly excellent - overblown negative press means favourable pricing!

I bought a Surface RT because they have been much maligned in the market, and are subsequently pretty good value for what you actually get. As long as you're aware that you can only install software from the Windows Store - and understand the ramifications of that - it's a great tablet.

The metal and glass build feels solid, the screen is quite pretty (if a little glare-y) and the range of external connectors is pretty impressive. The magnetic, reversible connectors for power and the keyboard/cover contraption are a pleasure to use.

I did have one issue with the unit I bought - the headphone jack and volume rocker were dead on arrival. Based on some subsequent Google searches this seems to be a fairly common problem. It can be fixed however! You do need some confidence in repairing electronics, though.

If you're having trouble with your headphone jack/volume rocker, take a look at the iFixit teardown for disassembly instructions. You need to get the tablet to the point where you've removed the battery connector from the mainboard. The culprit for most of the headphone jack/rocker-related problems is the small flexible circuit board that hosts these two components.

It has a little push-on connector to attach to the main board, which is situated right under the battery ribbon cable you just disconnected. It's not the best connector, and appears to come loose easily - all you need to do is carefully align it and press it firmly into the mainboard. I'd recommend partially reassembling the tablet and trying it with some headphones before you complete the reassembly - it took me a couple of tries.

Overall, I think the Surface RT is great value for money. If you're in the market for a tablet, I'd urge you to disregard the negative hype and see if you can demo one - they really do feel like a high-quality product. That being said, I think that people who understand the trade-offs between ARM and x86 cores, the locked-down bootloader and execution environment, and the limitations of Windows RT will get the most value out of it - largely just 'cause they'll know what they're getting themselves into.

Over all disappointed!!!!! RT if limited and clunky to use, wait for PRO

For what it is Surface RT is fine, fairly limited software. I recommend waiting for the Surface PRO which will be a full PC Tablet!

Quick postage. Great product.

The seller has quick postage. The product works well. My son takes it to school to assist with assignees etc and finds it easy to transport.
