Great alternative to a chest strap

I was looking for an alternative to a strap HRM, which always slide down my chest and I have never had much success with, and hate wearing even when they are cooperating, so I got this optical HRM which transmits via ANT+ (and Bluetooth) to, well, basically any device that takes ANT+.

There are some new watches out there that have an optical system built in, but my Garmin 910XT does not. Some things that I have learned:

1) The Link connects flawlessly to the Garmin watch. You can wear it on the other arm, or as I do, on the same arm to minimize dropouts, etc.

2) On the same arm, it even works SUBMERGED.

2.1) Caveat: It will only pair in bike or run mode on the 910XT! So even though it SHOULD work, it does not work for the swim.

2.2) Second Caveat: Unlike the Garmin HRM-Swim and HRM-Tri, the Mio Link does not STORE data. It MUST be linked to another device to save. So it you are swimming and the signal drops, that data is gone.

3) I understand the 920XT has the swim heart rate option, and the only difference is software. The aforementioned Garmin HRM straps also do not work with the 910XT.

4) Connects to Zwift just fine. Connects simply to the MIO App as well.

So I really like it, but it would appreciate a firmware update by Garmin to enable full usability. Why would they not have done this already?

Works great

Comfortable to wear and picks up heart rate reliably. Easy to configure initially with the Mio app; after that connect to Runkeeper or your fitness app of choice. Color-coded light is useful and clear but not distracting. Just what I needed to keep me in the zone. Magnetic USB charger is OK although the cable is very short. Can't comment on battery life as my workouts don't last more than two hours. I've used it for running in the rain with no issue. Overall a good purchase.Read full review...

Very Functional, Light, and Fashionable

This product is great, no more chest straps. It is so light that I forget that I am wearing it sometimes. The band and clasp are very well mated and it looks great, not bulky. It is very easy to clean and intuitive; great product and I hope it last at least a year. If it does then it will get six stars from me.Read full review...

I have been using a Mio LInk for 2 years, with a Peloton Bike. It has ANT+ capability--and works well for me.
