Great Classic!

What can I say about this classic book? First, it's not easy reading. It's one of those books that they made us read in High School or College so that automatically is a negative thing.
Second, one has to get used to the archaic (it was archaic even when it was written) English usage that the author deliberately used to express himself.
Third, it's kinda a long story which in the beginning (if you're not reading the edited version) digresses -if one can say that- into the mechanics of whaling and what whaling is all about.
If you can look beyond these 3 points, I do believe that -given you know the background and time period in which this story was written- you will get much pleasure in reading one of the world's greatest pieces of english literature. be aware though, you can't read this in one sitting, it's a novel and as such you need space to absorb the storyline, characters, as well as to what the meaning behind it all is all about. There are differences of opinion as to what the author intended to tell his public, but regardless of that, as all great literature, one can find meaning to today's times as well and perhaps to oneself too.
Please vote on this guide, it really is appreciated!
