My first BLUNT Mora - extremely disappointing.

Yippee, my new Mora Garberg ("bushcraft" stylee), has arrived in the post and looks very impressive. The sheath options are intriguing and the actual sheath itself is similar to most other Moras - so it's strong, secure and drains well. This one has the option of passing an external strap over the butt-tang extension, which would be a good idea - if the exposed portion of this tang was not quite as sharp as it is... This exposed tang section is just like the blade spine, in that it has Two, 90-degree, perfectly-ground edges. So both spine and butt tang will be excellent for scraping tasks, firelighting and other related tasks requiring a sharp scraper - and spoon bowl scraping will be simple with this butt tang extension.
The problem with that - going back to the securing strap - is that said strap will soon be severed by our super-sharp tang edges, so that design aspect has failed at the first hurdle. No problem, the standard click-lock sheath grips this handle securely, so losing the knife is unlikely.
The handle is big and comfortable, so that's good too.... But
And this is a BIG but, for a New, Flagship Mora design...
My new Mora, as it arrived in its box - was - and I cannot believe I'm saying this...
BLUNT.
Not just dull, but (almost dangerously, for any knife), but so blunt as not even to cut standard (80 gsm), copier paper without tearing it... And this is a MORA...!!!
There are a few unspoken facts of life in this world, Tenets of faith, if you like... Snap-On make the best hand-tools, Knipex make the best Pliers and Sandvik make the best saw blades in the world. These are facts and folklore, handed down from father to son.
In amongst all these unwritten rules is the simple fact that ALL Moras are shaving, razor-sharp, right out of the box.
No arguments, no exceptions, that's the way they are - so the perception now is that that's the way they should be.
This must be tough for the Mora Quality Control and Final Inspection team - but, hey, checking the edges are sharp on the limited numbers of Garbergs (compared to all their other, less-expensive cutlery), cannot be that difficult.
So the fact that one has escaped such inspection and found its way into my hands is, simply, disappointing.
One of the pillars of bushcrafting wisdom has just collapsed - taking trust in Mora with it.
And NO, before anyone from the frozen, scandinavian wastes contacts me to suggest that I send it back for a free replacement - by the time I waste even more time and packaging and postage and more time, it will be simpler to strap this garberg into my sharpening system and put a proper edge on the main blade myself.
So, in summation, this is NOT a vendor or seller fault - Mora retailers should not have to check the edge keenness on every blade they sell. The standard sheath system is as good as any other Mora. The blade Spine sharpness is perfect - on both edges. The tang extension is equally sharp and will be useful. The "strapover" securing system is included in the word: "Scrapped" - which is what it should be. The main blade is strong, made of good steel and will take a good edge - eventually.
The fact that this one was blunt, out of its box, is simply unforgivable - and is the sole reason for the Poor rating.
And I challenge the Mora CEO or MD or other senior managerial, to answer these comments in full, and on this open forum...
Over to you, Mr. Mora.
Disappointedly,
Autolycus.

Excellent value for the money! Like all Moras outstanding quality.

I own several knives for bushcrafting, fishing and camping. Such as a several handmade knives 1095 steel O2 steel. They all go to hard testing, as did the Mora. Added to the fact that it is far less costly than other knives that have the same abilitys in my collection, it is stainless steel! Which made it very fast my go to blade for saltwater fishing. Plus, you can mount it almost everywhere! In the car, in the boat, to your belt, bag, ...... If you have it mounted to your boat (f.e.) and you want to go somewhere and fish from the beach, jetty.. Take it out of the mount, attach the beltloop, put it on your belt, that's it! if you are coming back you can mount it to the boat again with ease. It has a sharp 90 degree spine to create sparks from a ferro rod to start a fire. And it IS creating sparks!! there is only one of my other knives that does as good as the Mora but that knive has a 200$+ price tag.Read full review...
