One of the Best MK games to Date!

Everything about MK9 was flawless. After the non-violent Teen rated, MK vs DC Universe, NRS had to bring MK back to it's gore soaked roots. Enter "Mortal Kombat" (aka MK9) : Labeled as a soft reboot, of the original trilogy (MK1 - UMK3), it brought back brand new gruesome Fatalities, a new unique mix between a Babality and a Friendship, simply called Babalities, intense reimaginings of klassic stage Fatalities from the first three original MK games, Tag Team Matches, new modes, such as a Test Your Luck ladder and an awesome story mode, which I believe is the best story out of MK9,MKX and MK11. The gameplay has been brought back, to it's klassic 2D style of fighting, with a good amount of kombos and special moves for each character. Personally, what I've always loved the most about MK9, is the fact, there are nothing but klassic MK characters in this game. Everyone from MK1-UMK3 is included. So, no new krappy characters plaguing the roster (I am looking at you Kung Jin, Kollector and Cetrion!) To make matters better, MK9 has NOW been included as a backwards compatible title for Xbox One, Xbox One X and Xbox Series X! (about time...I know, right?) So, go find yourself a kopy of this modern day klassic, and FIGHT ! ! ! Read full review...

Response to the master (thinks is one) velvet!!

If your a MK fan, then u appreciate all of them ! Sir velvete has way to much time on his plate to autopsy every MK game! U should be a developer! 😂XBOX one compared to XBOX OG well u have a match up of ps1 with PS4 ! I’m stocked to have gotten the game for an amazing low price ! I appreciate nobody else wanting it as it completes my collection ! Yep even
Have the MK4 on the Sega happyhour is here so get over here! I’ll drink to that! Play on and FINISH HIM!

Have you missed having Shao Kahn tell you that you suck repeatedly? Well...

Mortal Kombat had been lagging behind other fighters in recent years, especially after Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe -- a decent game in its own right but very non-MK. With this most recent installment, Mortal Kombat can officially say it is back.

In resurrecting interest in its franchise, the developers have gone back to what made it successful. The game is essentially a re-telling of the first three Mortal Kombat games, which you will learn more about in the game's in-depth story mode. The game is also played in 2D as it was during its heyday, not 3D like it had been since Deadly Alliance. Although I actually preferred the extra plane of movement, playing in 2D really did not detract from my experience as far as I am concerned.

And speaking of Mortal Kombat getting back to its roots, did I mention that the fatalities are especially brutal this time around? No? Well, they are. The game mixes in a nice balance between harkening back to the glory days (Arcade drop fatality for Liu Kang) and some new, gruesome ways do finish an opponent (Quan Chi beating his opponent mercilessly with their own leg). Each fighter can perform at least 2 unique fatalities, stage fatalities (acid pits, anyone?), and a Babality. Sorry, no Animalities or Friendships.

The roster for the game is also well-stocked. It features game mainstays like Liu Kang (non-zombified), Sonya Blade, Johnny Cage, Raiden, Shang Tsung, Kano, Scorpion, and Sub-Zero and others who will bring back nostalgic feelings, like Stryker, Noob, Sheeva, and Kabal. You will also be given the opportunity to face the likes of Shao Kahn, Goro, and Kintaro.

As for the game modes themselves, Arcade is pretty straight forward. You all should remember the arcade ladders from before; it is the same here. There is also a Challenge Tower that will challenge your resolve moreso than your gaming abilities with its 300 floors and irritating fight modifiers. Luckily, you can at least buy your way past troublesome floors to progress. The story mode is, by far, the most satisfying mode. Rarely do fighting games bother with giving story mode much depth (Soul Calibur?), but this one delivers in a big way. Online play is online play; nothing much to explain there. The Krypt is back and more detailed than ever. Watch out for the demon stalking the place; it has snuck up on me several times and gets me every time.

Caution achievement hunters: This game will make you angry in a hurry, as some of the achievements are brutal. See: My Kung Fu is Stronger.

So what does one get with the Komplete Edition over the basic edition? Well, you start off immediately with all the fighters unlocked with all of their costumes, including all the classics available as DLC. Your fighter roster also now includes Freddy Krueger, Skarlet, Kenshi, and Rain. Kratos is still a PS3 exclusive. You will also receive codes for a download of the movie of Mortal Kombat (the one with Robin Shou) and a Mortal Kombat soundtrack of "songs inspired by the warriors". I would have preferred to have had songs like the Living Forest theme or something, but what are you gonna do?

So in summary, the Komplete Edition not only gives you an entertaining fighter with a terrific story mode, it also gives you four extra characters and all the costumes and fatalities unlocked right off the bat. If you are a fan of Mortal Kombat and have yet to buy this game, then definitely consider picking up the Komplete Edition.

Amazing Game even at full price its worth every penny.

Amazing game homage to the Classic MK. Beautiful graphics even with hic ups here and there. Overall this game has done what many fighting games fail to do; keep the player playing it even after beating the story. Its just so freaking fun and brutal. Don't get me wrong it ain't perfect but it has set the standard for what a fighting game should be (again) in this modern age of boring cliche fighters. With an actual story and various modes this title will keep the player playing and have a hunger for more. I recommend if you haven't picked up the title get the Komplete Edition since it contain all 4 dlc characters and all 14 dlc skins as well on the disc. Also as a bonus you get the mk 1995 movie to download on your system and a soundtrack to download on your Computer as well. Letting you know you only have to December to use those codes before they expire so make up your mind before those bounses become void. Of course you must buy it new for the codes to be unused. I literally have a hard time not playing mk on my spare time, it's just so badass and cool. It lets me unwind after a hard's day work.Read full review...

Great

Game plays well and easy with the controls. Plays better than other Mortal kombat games and has more and realistic characters.I have enjoyed playing this against my friends and would highly recommend it if you are a Mortal Kombat fan. You have a good selection of characters and can vary characters strengths. I have all the Mortal Kombat collection and by far this one is the best to date. I hope they bring out another one soon with even more characters. Many hours of fun. I will definitely buy the next installment of this game as they keep getting better and better. The characters are harder to fight as you get deeper into the game and like I mentioned before the fun starts as they are harder to overcome.Read full review...

One of the better games for the Xbox 360

I don't usually play fighting games, but this one is very fun and a joy to play. Controls take some getting used to. A great deal if you only have a Xbox 360 and not an Xbox One.
