it actually half way works

There are piles of "relationship" movies-- how friends relate to each other, how siblings sibble, how parents work together or apart, the spatz and sparks between parent and child-- and almost uniformly they wind up fluff with some overly dramatic icing that attempts to hide the reality of the situation.

In this case, they start out with a bad choice (one last chance to misbehave!) but instead of fluff and icing they actually try to enter the problems they create, look at it, and struggle through it.

Not entirely successful, it at least tries, and is worth it if you have time and an interest in planned, voluntary pre-marital infidelity.
