Cold Mix Cold Play!

Okay.... so, ''Would I recommend it?'', I am asked? Well, no, not really. I would go for Cold Play Live Paris 2012, as they used the tour to unleash the album, and I have to say Cold Play live, anywhere, are where this group really are at their best. My biggest complaint, not just with this CD, but all Cold Play CD's is that they need a new Producer, and the Producer needs better sound engineers. Its just too much bass in the mix! CD is a notoriously lazy mix, as it fails with its own modernity. CD cannot separate as analogue can, but the issue is the sound engineers and Producer mix, these days, for CD and down-loads first, and then when its pressed, for vinyl, the damage is done. I would say that the bass is massive, and it detracts from the brilliantly tight rhythm section, and the naturally needed treble or high areas. What this group need is a team who were around during analogue recording, and to listen to tight bands of the analogue days, such as Pink Floyd, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin. I would also suggest ANY group of the 70s, as their mixing was far superior to today's.

So, mix aside? Well, this is Cold Play, and take away the anthems that we all know, and once more I find Chris Martin achingly lacking. Aching? Yes, because he could and should be a better song writer, and why oh why does he insist on vocals of, pretty much, just him, with no backing? Only when he is joined by a woman, does his voice, also, separate, and maybe he needs to listen to The Beatles for male voice harmony? Or Oasis, for more up to date.

So, would I recommend this album? Yes, if you want the Cold Play library, but I would stick to the live CD and maybe, just maybe the band should re-think how they record, master, and mix!

Brilliant album but arrived damaged

Brilliant album but the CD case was damaged despite the description saying otherwise. It arrived with bits of the ring that holds the CD in place missing, which meant that the CD can't be held in place, it has to be haphazardly loose within the CD case. Photo attached.Read full review...
