Classic arcade basketball in Genesis form

I didn't know this game existed at all before 2004 and didn't know there was a Genesis version before this year! The first time I played this was the N64 version and later on, the arcade machine and my first thought was "Hey! This is NBA Jam!"

Yeah that pretty much sums this up completely. 2 on 2 basketball with extreme rule and crazy characters (you create your own so how about a guy with a basketball for a head?) and dunks. Lots of dunks!

After playing those two versions, however, the Genesis version certainly shows its limitations. The graphics look a little blurry and muddy- kind of like an early Super Nintendo game. The sound, while typical Genesis quality, is missing a lot that is present in the arcade and 64 versions. But when it comes to gameplay, this sticks with that good old pick up and play style that the Genesis sports library is known for! The three button controls are perfect. You have pass, turbo and shoot. That's all you need!!

This game was made in the amazing 90s era of the NBA so you have greats such as Patrick Ewing, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman to team up with so you can pretty much live your childhood dream and play with the stars.

This only gets 4 stars instead of 5 just because of the watered down nature of this port and the fact that sports titles don't appeal to everyone but each of the 4 stars is definitely well deserved.

If you are or were a B-ball fan, love arcade games, or love retro sports titles, you should pick this up!!Read full review...
