Great cheap camera for casual family snapshots!

Not as good as the similar-looking Coolpix 2200 for taking beautifully-focused closeup photos in macro mode, but this 5600 model is better for taking family snapshots where you want to be able to enlarge or zoom in on details without losing sharpness as quickly. The 2200 is OK for prints up to 3x5 inches, so I'm sure this 5600 would do somewhat larger satisfactorily. The resulting file sizes are very emailable as-is by modern standards, and their largeness compared to the 2200 is compensated for in the camera by the ability to use larger capacity film cards. I have a 512 MB card in my 5600 and it works well, whereas I'm sure the same card would overwhelm my 2200, or at least be impractically slow to write the images into. I would not try to use larger than 128 MB in the 2200, and 64 MB writes faster. I think the Coolpix 5600 was introduced about 2 years after the Coolpix 2200, so of course it is a little more modern.

Unlike the earlier 2200, this camera offers sound with its video recording, but frankly the video quality is not good and not a reason to buy it.

Like the 2200, this uses (older/smaller) SD cards and standard rechargeable AA batteries, and handles lighting contrasts like shadows across a face infinitely better than many other older digital cameras I've used. And I I find the controls on both of these cameras MUCH more intuitive than any other camera I've tried, including modern Nikons.

Oh I should mention that the combination of sliding latch and sliding/swinging battery cover seems too much for a lot of people to figure out. I see a lot of these cameras for sale with cracked or broken battery covers, from people prying at them with a knifeblade or similar. Use your brain before prying, and your eyes before buying!

Great camera for the money.

Great camera for low light conditions composing the picture. Resolution is excellent and when viewed on computer monitor is almost as good as my D50 resolution. Easy to use and transport. Zoom is easy to use. Battery door breaks easily and it is hard on batteries if not removed after every use. Well worth what I paid on Ebay.Read full review...

This is a nice little bundle of value.

Very easy to use.Takes regular 'AA' batteries which is convenient.Nice viewing screen. I was able to use it effectively almost immediately because it is very simple to operate and easy to hold.Never had a camera I liked before...guess I can't say that again!Read full review...

This camera is easy to use and takes great pictures.

I was replacing another Nikon Coolpix 5600 camera. My camera had a broken door where you put in the batteries. I like this camera and wanted to have the same one again. I have had this model for a long time and I like using it.Read full review...

The Nikon 5600 has been my workhouse since I bought one in 2007. This little camera has AMAZING image clarity as well as wonderful focus and image recognizing. Truly easy to use!

Awesome Old little digital camera

I had the same product but it broke on me, this is a perfect 1 to 1 replacement i thought I’d never find with the product being as old as it is.

Works ok, but no mass delete function. you have to manually delete memory

No "Delete all pictures function". Instructions are complicated and don't work right.
