Just a good camera

The camera is really good it takes fantastic pictures the video is at 720P so it's not that high resolution put the lens on the camera makes everything look very nice. If you want something to take do Zoom really close enter stuff that's far away and you want a quality picture out of it this camera will do the job. Won't charge so can't use

Ordered to use as a Christmas gift for my daughter, cannot get the camera to charge. I'll have to try buying a new battery or new charging cable, was expecting it to all work!

Nikon Coolpix S6000

The Nikon Coolpix S6000 is a sleek, user-friendly compact ultrazoom camera with a surprisingly long 7x optical zoom (a 35mm equivalent lens range of 28mm to 196mm). It occupies the middle ground between standard ultracompact point-and-shoot cameras with 3x or 4x optical zoom, such as Nikon's own S4000, and compact ultrazooms with 10x optical zoom and higher, such as Nikon's S8000

The S6000 is a small, lightweight camera at 3.8 inches wide, 2.2 inches high and 1 inch thick (97x55x25mm), with a weight of only 5.5 ounces (156 grams). It has a 1/2.3-inch, 14.2 megapixel sensor, probably the same sensor that is in the S8000. The S6000 comes in four colors - silver, red , black and bronze

Nikon packages this model with an EN-EL12 lithium-ion battery, an adaptor for plugging into a power source to recharge the battery, a USB cord for transferring files and battery recharge, an A/V cable, a wrist strap, a CD-ROM containing a 164 page User's Manual and various software programs including Nikon's ViewNX picture transfer and organizing software. The camera I received also contained a paper version of the User's Manual.

BUILD AND DESIGN

The first thing one notices about the S6000 is its attractive, burnished metal front section. All the parts seem to be of high quality, with excellent fit and finish. The camera, while small and lightweight, feels solid. After two weeks of inhabiting my pocket it did not seem the least bit worn.

The S6000's buttons and dials work as they should. The camera has solid, tight-fitting coverings over its A/V and HDMI ports. Its wrist strap is well designed, as it is a good size (not too small) and loops over a solid metal ring built into the side of the camera. Its battery/memory card compartment cover, while plastic, seems firmly attached to the camera body, and is closed by a sliding latch. However, on one occasion when I pulled the camera out of my pocket, I noticed that the cover had opened on its own.
The only design issue I found was that, when the camera was in use for a while, the LCD would get slightly warm. I don't know whether this is normal for Nikon cameras but I've never noticed it on any other camera I've used.
Ergonomics and Controls

The S6000 has the typical boxy shape of most small cameras. It can be used with one hand, and it has a useful thumb grip at the rear that helps, but most people will probably want to use both hands to get the sharpest possible picture. Also, the metal front of the camera is rather slippery, which makes one-handed shooting more of a problem.

The camera's front is dominated by its lens, which retracts into the camera body when not in use. There is an auto focus assist/timer lamp next to the lens and a thin flash in the upper corner. Unfortunately, the flash is in a position where it is vulnerable to being blocked by fingers of a left hand steadying the camera. The camera's front also contains holes for the microphone.

The sides of the S6000 are pretty barren, containing only the wrist strap ring, HDMI port and speaker pinholes.

The bottom portion of the S6000 contains a metal tripod socket, located at the far end of the camera. While placing the socket in the middle is best for proper balance on the tripod, the far end location should not be a problem here considering the light weight of the camera. I give this camera a total grade of a "C". Spend a little more, be happy.

This is an ok starter camera for anyone who wants a "point and shoot" camera. But if you want to be able to do any additional, unique fun things with it, this isn't the one you want. I found it to not have a lot of those little extras you look for in a camera. I think that next time I will just pay a little more and get the camera I really want. Forget the big deals...stick with what is certain.
In fact, even with this camera being so inexpensive, I don't think I would be as happy with the purchase because trying to find my way around to each feature is not as "COOL" as the advertisements make it out to be.
But for the low price I paid for it, I think I got a good deal. Any more expense would take away from the whole experience.Read full review...

Even refurbished, it's an excellent model!

First off, I'll state that I am limited in my knowledge when it comes to cameras and the distinction between one model and another. But what I do know, I will share.
The S6000 is the best P&S camera I've owned. The model I bought was even refurbished, and it outperforms other models I have tried or owned. It has a plethora of options and is very easy to use. Beginners can pick this camera up and start shooting immediately. Shortly after, they will be able to experiment and learn its other functions quickly. The menu interface is very in-depth, yet still easy to understand and navigate.
The 14.2 megapixels allow for simple photo editing without losing much of the quality of the picture.
I would definitely recommend at least keeping this model as a top choice if you're shopping around.Read full review...

More than point and click

My wife wanted a new camera. I reviewed many and decided on this one. Yes you can point and shoot, but the capabilities go much more than this. Lighting, speed, aperature control all are controllable and you can affect the pictures so much. My wife studied the large included manual, and her pictures are now really good looking. This is really a versatile camera that can be used like a professional tool to produce excellent results. Whether shooting portraits or scaled down pictures for e-mailing, this is a really nice camera. Neither of us, till now, have had any experience with anything more than simple point and shoot cameras, and we both find this to be a very good and versatile camera. Kids are already asking to borrow it. One is useing it for photo layout for his company. We are Pleased. scene selection feature is why I bought it

I had one of these cameras purchased in 2014. I dropped it in water and it broke in 2018. This is a replacement since Nikon doesn't make this model anymore. I bought a Canon to replace the Nikon but I do not like the way it works. The scene selection mode is the main reason I wanted to the Nikon buy it again. It makes setting up your shots so easy. Excellent starter digital camera!

I purchased my first digital camera as an upgrade from the cell phone camera. The pictures I take require options for filters, lighting and scenery (options my cell phone doesn't have). This camera has settings for automatic, manual or both. The macro setting is great, too. ISO allows for excellent shots-provided you know how to use them. The best part is the picking out how many pixels you want (3 up to 14) for the photo, and type. The option for video isn't bad, but make sure the settings are correct for the video. The sound is OK, not the best-but good for a combo type. A great starter camera for those interested in digitalphotography. The quality is excellent, overall.Read full review...

Very good quality pictures

I love the close up scene, It makes the pictures appears as if it was taken by a pro camera. The image and zoom is good. Pictures taken in the dark looks clear with flash. I like the smart portrait option and the image tracking which follows a target in movement. The only drawbacks is that compared to the previous models like for example the Coolpix s3000, this camera is a little heavy and gently big.Read full review...

Awesome Camera

Pros:
-Shoots amazing photos with great clarity.
-HD video is a great addition, and works very well, especially with stereo sound.
-Small camera, with a high level of zoom, 10x total (7x optical, 3x digital)
-Rechargeable battery lasts around 250 pictures.

Cons:
-Need to buy a large memory card, I would say 8gb, gives around 1100 14MP photos.
-Little bit of a learning curve on how to use the advance functions, and get clear photos.

Super Nikon COOLPIX S6000

The camera works like new. Lightweight, compact and has more features than I really need, but they are there. The instruction manual was not included, but was easily accessed and downloaded online.
