When did things get this good in the economy bracket?

Upgraded my old Nikon D50 to the D3300, entry level to entry level. 6mp to 24mp seems like a fairly big improvement but just how big I did not expect.
Ease of use is night and day better, so easy to set custom setting using the "i" button on the back of the camera. You can increase ISO sensitivity safely to 3200 without loss of quality meaning super high shutter speeds (1/4000th sec) when zoomed. Add in a VR lens and a huge selection of modes that are easy to use and the quality of pictures is quite frankly mind blowing.
All my old lens worked properly with the new D3300, although I did upgrade my zoom to a 70-300VR which is a very nice lens and works very well with this camera.
Quality - very good, no complaints
Feel - excellent, everything is where it should be, display is big, clear and friendly. Flash works impeccably.
Picture quality and resolution is outstanding. Allowing digital editing and further zooming into that generous 24 megapixels. A little softening is noticeable but much less than on the older D50 so each pixel is clearer.
Autofocus and tracking could be better but is still very good and much better than on older cameras (or anything in the same price bracket).
An almost perfect camera for a fraction of the price of a slightly better one.

Decent camera Beware of the cheap, flimsy accessories!

This is a good Nikon D3300 DSLR, but the story ends there. The 18-55 lens is an actual Nikon product, but the most basic version (without the VR & AF on/off functions). The rest of the accessories are cheap Chinese aftermarkets that leave you holding your breath and wondering when they will fall apart in your hands. The tripod especially is extremely lightweight and flimsy, looking like it could hardly hold a pocket point and shoot camera steady, let alone a DSLR. All in all, I guess you get what you pay for, but don't expect much from this cheap collection.Read full review...

Great camera with nice features for beginners or intermediate photographers.

Love this product, it is lightweight, has great features, but not so many that makes it difficult to use or learn some of the more refined feature options on the camera. Easy to use in auto mode, but also easy to figure out how to use it in manual, portrait, landscape or night landscape modes. Highly recommend this camera.Read full review...

I've begun using it for outdoor photography and nature photos while hiking.

I've owned several Nikon cameras over the years, so I knew what the expect with the D3300. I starting to get into Astrophotography, so I wanted something that would good for manual control and some real fine-tuning. I also wanted the best quality mirror and imaging system. The D3300 was the cutting edge camera of its day, and it still fits well into a budget photographer kit. If you can't afford the $1500 plus for a new Nikon then this was a GREAT option at under $200. Nikon D3300

It's probably a little late to make this review since I bought this not long after they came out but mines still churning out excellent photos after years of use. I mainly got this so my old glass doesn't have to set in the bag and it works fine with those F mount lenses if you don't mind using manual mode. For the price I can't knock it.Read full review...

Very good camera!

I'm very pleased with this camera. It's extremely easy to use, with a built in guide mode. The best camera I have ever had. Excellent photo quality.
You will get so much more use out of this camera if you read the Dummies guide to the D3300. Very informative!Read full review...

Great 1st Camera for learning photography.

The camera is easy to use and takes great pictures in many different environments. It's a great entry level camera that would still be useful as your skill set grows.

Awesome Beginner Camera

For the price, this is probably the best camera you can buy if you're a beginner photographer. It has all the functions you need to start learning photography, comes with a pretty decent kit lens, and has a mic input if you want to add a shotgun mic for video (this was removed in the D3400, which is why I opted for this model since I'm a musician and I care about good audio).

Now I just need to save up for a good prime lens like the 35mm!

Super-Dooper Camera!!!

They say this is an entry level camera! Bull. I am not a pro at pics, but this camera does all you could want. Easy for the very novice to just put on auto and shoot great shots, or add a lens accessory and try to be the pro. Package has most everything you could want, at a really great price. I did order another 55-200 telephoto lens, but that is just me. I took 70 pics at a party the night I got the camera, and the flash did great and made me look like I really knew something. Great pics! And you can even tweek them with the camera setting if you want after the shoot. Much more camera that I expected for the price, and the kit is also very nice. Would highly recommend this for package for anyone wanting to do more than snapshots on a budget. Can't be happier!Read full review...

Great basic DSLR

I retired my Nikon 35mm SLR years ago in favor of a small, light weight digital camera then an iPhone. While these have their place, I always missed the control of the SLR. Still having all the old lenses, I decided to take the plunge and re-enter the SLR club with this camera. I have had it a few weeks and I absolutely love it. It feels and behaves like my old camera but with many of the new bells and whistles.

I have shot in aperture priority, shutter priority and manual mode. It has been fairly intuitive to use and the picture quality is fabulous. aIf you have never used an SLR or DSLR you will probably need to either watch some YouTube videos or buy a book explaining how it works. The manual does a good job of telling you what the different controls are but not how to use them. One definite advantage you will have in learning to use this is you can instantly review your pictures, so most features are easy to figure out.

It does have a complete set of automatic modes so you should always be able to get a decent photo. Old legacy Nikon lenses will work on the D3300 in manual mode.

I am very happy with this camera, I wish I had got it sooner.
