An oldie but a goodie!
Many reviews are already out there, so I won't go on about this lens too much.
It is an older lens that has been replaced by the newer 14-24mm and the 16-35mm but still performs well. I'd only buy this lens if you have a full frame camera as you would lose some of the wide end on a DX format camera (DX owners should buy the 17-55mm lens instead).
Also it is smaller than both the 16-35 and 14-24 lenses which makes it good for travelling with (albeit fairly heavy).
Awesome for landscapes and is nice and sharp at about f/8 to f/22. And great for interesting portraits too. It does focus to within 10cm or so (check other reviews) so you can get real close to your subject.
Only drawback is that it doesn't have weather sealing :(
It is also not a G lens and has an aperture ring which is fine and old skool as this is an old skool lens.
If you know what you're doing, you'll love this lens as it is much cheaper than the 14-24mm lens and you can put filters on it.
Best lens for street photography and journalism and landscapes.Read full review...
Solid, very high quality, excellent value for money.
Pin sharp and optically perfect across entire range - available at reasonable prices second hand considering the quality. Since buying this lens I have found that I have it permanently fitted to one of my Nikon bodies as it is very versatile for landscape and general photography. Fast autofocus and crisp, clear results. Heavy, of course, but tough as well!Read full review...

Excellent
The AF-S 17-55mm has a price tag a little beyond the 1000 EUR/US$ barrier but upon first contact it is pretty obvious that you also get some value for your money - the build quality of the lens is superb. The lens body is made of metal and there're rubber sealings to protect it against dust and humidity. The focus ring operates pretty smooth whereas the zoom ring is slightly on the stiff side but it is also well damped. The lens extends slightly at the extreme ends of the zoom range - more so towards the wide end as you may notice in the product images above. While this design may appear a little unusual (though not unprecedented) it has obviously advantages regarding the lens hood which can be deeper and therefore more effective. Thanks to an IF (internal focusing) design the front element does not rotate so using a polarizer is no problem. Typical for all G lenses the Nikkor does not provide a dedicated aperture ring anymore. Like most modern Nikkors it features a silent-wave (ultrasonic) AF motor providing very fast and near-silent AF operations.Read full review...
Not what i was expected
Its a very good Lens for Low light Photography But i did not got much infermation from the seller while bidding
The 17-35 is fast, light and super versatile. A great all-rounder.
Lighter, shorter and with the same fast 2.8 aperture as the 24-70, this lens gives you a little extra angle of view which is great for working in close. I just sold my 24-70 to ugrade to this lens and am more than happy. Not bad considering the 24-70's legendary reputation.Read full review...
