"The most portable game system"

After playing with this for a few months, how could I possibly go back to a console system, restricting my fun to a chair and television set?

I can take this portable anywhere (yes, including the bathroom) and it just delivers amazing gameplay, sound, etc.

The volume control is very precise and you can lower it to whisper level when you are playing (I played it while waiting for my car (having an oil change) in the waiting room).

This unit actually fits inside my pocket (some of the other, more advanced systems are too large).

The screen size is the same as the more advanced Nintendo DS and about 1 inch larger than the Nintendo Gameboy Micro.

The rechargeable battery is locked in with a tiny screw that requires a screwdriver when it's time to replace it.

However, since that probably won't happen in a few years, it does not affect the performance, quality or portability of this game system.

When I bought mine, I had a choice of colors (graphite -versus- metallic blue).

I chose the metallic blue color.

The brighter display works when you press a tiny button on the top center of the lower half of the unit.

When playing in a brighter setting, keep in mind that this will drain the battery a bit faster, so I often choose when to go for the extra brightness.

The power button is located on the outer right side - I turn the system on before I flip the unit open - the best design!

I won't be accidently pressing the power button when in the mist of action.

The weight, size and balance all feel just perfect.

I can hold this unit with one hand if I need to answer the phone or something.

As Nintendo continues to provide newer, more advanced game systems, I am pleased to know that they have decided to support this amazing little unit.

For a more technical perspective; The Gamboy Advance SP = The Super Nintendo (without the 'X' and 'Y' buttons).

This unit has a directional four way keypad, Brightness, Start, Select, B & A buttons are on the top.

The left side has the volume slider.

The right side has the power button.

The front has the cartridge slot.

The rear has the L & R buttons, power adapter, gamelink adapter & slots for the neck strap.

In conclusion, I can play anywhere, store it in my pocket and simply enjoy life.

In such a hectic life, it's good to know that it is possible to find some free time to enjoy video games.Read full review...

Good value but just a couple issues.

This gameboy works right out of the package, and it arrived earlier than expected! However it doesn't save Data for gameboy color games. I played pokemon crystal on my normal advanced and it saves perfectly fine. And the battery light indicator will flash red at random sometimes so it's hard to discern whether it has a full charge or not.Read full review...

I’m very happy with this!

I feel like I was very lucky to find this product. Ever since my Spongebob GPA SP that I’ve had since childhood cracked, I’ve wanted another special GBA to avoid further damage to my childhood treasure. Not only does this custom GBA look fantastic, it plays fantastic too! And I didn’t realize the hack game Moemon came with it as well! I’ll really be enjoying playing that. A great handheld, possibly the best modern gameboy you could own.

The Nintendo Gameboy series has been around since the end of the 1980's and its arguably one of the most revolutionizing families in gaming. Before the Gameboy stepped in there really was no such thing as portable gaming, and certainly nothing that could play multiple games as well!

But to the point. The Gameboy Advance SP is one of the final systems to receive the Gameboy name (only the Gameboy micro came after it. The DS is NOT a gameboy even though it can play Gameboy Advance games) and in many ways its the best system in the line. Featuring a backlight (or frontlight), a folding screen-protecting design, full backwards compatibility, a by now massive game library, solid and simple design, and perhaps most importantly for us who played the original, it went back to the original button layout the original Advance so blatantly violated.

There are some cons to this system however. If you have big hands you may not be comfortable playing on the SP. Because the screen is on a hinge it is possible to break the screen off the system. The buttons are not the rubber-dome type used traditionally in Gameboys, but rather 'clicky' type buttons (personally, i prefer this, but some dont).

All that being said, the Gameboy Advance SP is in my opinion one of the best Gameboys to play your favorite games on, whether they are games like the original Pokemon or new games such as Fire Emblem, if you want a Gameboy you need a SP.Read full review...

Inexpensive - Plays GBA, Original GameBoy, and GameBoy Color. Rechargeable.

This is a great handheld game system. They are inexpensive(used) and very simple to use. It folds in half and easily fits in a pocket. However, some might find it too small for their hands, but it still beats playing games on a cell phone. The GBA SP also comes with an internal rechargeable battery. No more buying batteries for this one. One great thing is it also plays original gameboy and gameboy color games! That means you have 3 libraries of nintendo games that can be played with this. Very good condition wrong cord but whattaya do

It came it a little worse condition than I was expecting on the optimistic side but much better condition than on the pessimistic side and considering the price you find gameboys in worse condition on here this is a good bang for the buck, only issue is it came with a Ds lite charger and not a gameboy charger however that's not a big issue for me since I have an sp charger already. My FAVORITE nintendo product.

Despite the no headphone jack and the battery switch it's a pretty good game. It's too bad they don't sell them in stores, I would love to go to a store with all my excitement and buy one myself. As a big gamer, this is one of my favorite devices by nintendo. I love playing pokemon on it, the screens are usually always crisp no matter the damage (Unless shattered or half broken.)
