Unforgetable Game

This was a game that i have wished to play in a long time. It got great reviews from all over the place so I've decided to try it myself.

Starting with the graphics. They are cel shaded style so the game got an art feeling wich gives him an unique touch. But they could be a little better.
The gameplay is great! Hack and slash action of the best you can find and with a little touch of the wiimote which I think that could have more use. Lot's of gore(in the ntsc version because pal is censored)helps give the action more rush.
Now for the story. You play as an assassin which in a rank battle turned up to become the 11th best of america's assassin association and as so he entered a no way out way. Now with the help of a sexy french assistant you have to make your way through the ranks to become the best of all! I know that this sounds like a lame story but now mix it up with a good amount of sidequests to make money, the little touch of dressin travis touchdown and a lot of HUMOR AND GORE!

With this said I think everyone should try this awsome game which for me is worth 9/10 !

Fun, but flawed, game that oozes style and charisma.

3.5 Stars really. No More Heroes (NMH) oozes style at every turn, but there are some signifigant flaws holding it back.

The most frustrating part of the game is having to drive across the whole damn map all the time - it can take a good minute or so to get where you need to go - especially at first when the city is big and foreign. I beat the game with ~13 hours played - but I bet 4 of those hours were spent driving back and forth. It really feels like padding.

Similarly frustrating - failing a mission (there are a number of optional "one-hit and you lose" missions) and when you fail them, you can't start over. Likewise failing other jobs/missions means you have to drive back to the source and then turn around right back to where you were to try again.

Money is very grindy too - though really only an issue for me late in the game. I did have to repeat a few missions a couple of times to get enough cash for the last fight.

It's a fun game - combat is unique, and entertaining - controls can be a little off though, and some camera wonkiness is problematic too.

Overall It's easy to recommend for the price you're likely to find a copy now (i.e. - under $20). I have the sequel but haven't started playing it - I'm hoping it fixes a lot of these problems.

No More Heroes - Wii

I am a fan of action games. This made me a little hesitant to buy a Wii, which is more geared to family type games. Titles like No More Heroes give me hope for the system.
The gameplay of this game is ridiculously enjoyable. Unlike some sword wielding Wii games, you do not frantically wave the remote to execute attacks. Careful button pressing combined with Wii remote movement death blows make this game great fun without becoming boring or old quickly.
The graphics on this game are a little lacking, which is the only thing holding it back from an "Excellent" rating. The lack of graphical depth did not hinder the game experience.
A word of caution: this game is not for the young or squeamish. After you kill an enemy, blood squirts in all directions. If you do not want grotesque violence, this game may not be for you.
In conclusion, No More Heroes is an excellent title for those of us that want some carnage from our Wii systems. Its amazing gameplay will have you itching for another foe to kill.

No More Heroes

Excellent soundtrack. The not-so-serious story and retro-gaming elements in the game are relayed well in the games' main themes.

Replayability - Yes I will be playing this again although I have completed it twice.

Too short? Maybe. Were there more to do in the actionless 'world' map; this wouldn't be a negative comment.

Crappy side-jobs? Hardly 'entertainment.'

Wii controls respond well.

PAL-censored. Watch a youtube video of the NTSC version prepare for the shock. Though not a fan of "bloody" games - it fits SO well in this game and its' EU removal was a big mistake by Suda 51.

All-round? A one-of-a-kind game you will not regret playing. So much more could have been done however. And I'm sure 90% of others will say exactly the same thing.

Buy it.

No More Heros

In this adventure game directed by Goichi Suda (of Killer 7 fame), you play as Travis Touchdown, a normal guy (with an otaku geek streak to him) who wins a Beam Katana through an online auction and uses the weapon to start a new career as a professional killer. One day, an assassin named Helter Skelter appears before Travis and the two face off in a battle. Travis emerges victorious and finds himself in the presence of Silvia Christel, a mysterious French woman who claims to be an agent with the UAA. Silvia gives Travis official rank of 11 in the organization. Now, it's up to you to become #1.Read full review...

A palm-sweating, headache inducing good time!

No More Heroes is a fantastic game. It's intense, it's gory, it's funny, and it's fun. The pace almost never slows down during levels, and odd jobs that you have to do in the open world are enigmatically fun. It definitely has a sense of style that most games these days lack. They all seem like clones of each other.

My only complaint would have to be that the open world seems restricted. You can't really do anything, and crashing into cars is weird and glitchy.

However, at the price I purchased this game, an astounding $20 dollars (American), I find it hard to complain.

Great buy, although if you're not sure about the purchase, rent it first to see how you like it. Then hit the Ebay!

No More Heroes-- Perfect game for a sith lord

I have played through this game twice now, and recently began my third time through.

I quite enjoyed the cliche references to star wars characters and events.
The over-the-top level of gore made the game even more entertaining, but places it firmly in the ranks of a M rating.

When I discovered the game had been pulled out of development to get it on shelves, I was disappointed, but it still provides a fully enjoyable gaming experience.

The protagonist is an otaku assassin who uses a 'beam katana' to dispatch his many enemies in an explosion of blood and internal organs, while they lament their untimely demise, (often despite a loss of their head.)

The boss battles are easily the best part of the game, but after all weapon upgrades are unlocked, the first few bosses go down without much of a fight, even on the highest difficulty level. However, unless you learn to use the beam katana to it's full capacity, each boss can be quite challenging.

Certain game elements could have been fleshed out, making it even better, and I wonder what the game might have been like if it had had more time in development.

The control scheme utilizes the unique capabilities of the Wiimote creatively, but does not require constant waving of the controller, minimizing exhaustion from constant movement.

If you get bored quickly with constant hacking and slashing, (and the high level of gore that goes along with it,) you will probably not want to purchase this game.

However, the side jobs provide a delightful break from the monotony of constant bloodshed, (if nonstop blood flow makes you queasy.)

From mowing lawns, to disposing of garbage, to eradicating scorpions, (careful, they're poisonous!) and even motorcycle stunts, the side jobs can be quite fun.

The game got near perfect ratings from most magazine reviewers, despite it's flaws, and I tend to agree with them. I would give it a 9 out of 10.

Great game held back by the overworld.

The bosses are unique, fun, and in some cases challenging. The story is campy and entertaining. The generic repetitive enemies on the other hand get boring after a small time. You'll find yourself trying to find a way to get rid of them in some creative fashion to ease the boredom only to find there is no other way. Earning money is fun at first but quickly becomes annoying. Towards the end of the game it was infuriating, I had to take multiple breaks from the game because of it.

Overall, it's worth it to go through everything. The bosses and story progression bring this game up two stars. Worth more than I spent for it.

Hack and Slash with a retro feel

From the moment I laid eyes on the cover, I knew this was going to be an epic game, and it definitely didn't disappoint. You play as Travis Touchdown, an otaku just looking to be #1. Your main objective is to kill every assassin until you reach #1, doing side jobs such as cutting the grass and assassinating a CEO to raise enough funds to fight each ranked person. The only drawback to the side jobs portion is that some of the jobs can get redundant after a while and some pay WAY more than others, so there's no sense in doing some of them.

Other than that, this game has a very GTA feel about it. The time between ranked matches is spent in the open ended area of Santa Destroy. The only thing here is that you can't just go around killing random people. O well.

The boss matches are good, ranging from the ridiculously easy to knuckles- against-the-concrete hard.

Graphics are not bad. Many elements are purposely designed to have a retro 80's NES/Atari look, which helps make it stand out as more than just a bland hack and slash.

And the last thing, the fighting. Well for starters you fight with a beam katana (a lightsaber without calling it that) to slash your way through enemies. There's tons of moves you can do, all ending with a glorious spilling of blood. :)

All in all, this is a great game! Be sure to play this one before you buy Desperate Struggle!

Best game of the year so far!!!

This is the game every Wii gamer (over 18) has waited for, a game with plenty of action and a mature storyline. You star a Travis Touchdown a reluctant assassin whos weapon of choice is his beam katana. After killing a drifter named Helter Skelter you find out by the mysterious Sylvia Crystal that he was number 11 in the USAA(United States Assassins Association). From there you make it your mission to become the number 1 assassin.
Everything about the game is great. The cast of characters, graphics, gameplay and music. What makes it even better is the Wiis control system. As you attack enemies they can get stunned and you can unleash various wrestling moves by shifting the remote and nunchuck in a number of ways. The top 10 assassins are all completely different from each other, and are amonst the best boss battles you will ever play in you lifetime!!!!
Summed up in one word AMAZING!
