Small, cost effective and versatile.
Small, cost effective and versatile. I like this better than the embedded RIAA pre-amplifier in my Sony 'Elevated Standard' (ES) equiptment. I believe the low frequency rolloff is deeper, more pronounced and the higher frequencies are brighter than the OEM Sony pre-amp. That said, I will have to play with the L-Pads and outputs a little to get a better sense of how well the Douk RIAA pre-amp performs. It really should be connected to an oscilliscope for best review or a room mike to estimate its representation of the RIAA curves. I have seen DIY youtubes to this effect.
A down side to the T1 Phono Stage Preamp is there are no specifications issued with the shipped product (no input sensitivities, no feedback loops and no Hi-fi output RIAA reproduction curves), Some cross over, charts and IO limits would be a useful add-in. Rather than guess about how well the Douk Audio folks have preserved the, 'Hi-Fi well being' in this contemporary version of 70 year old transcription technology.
Also, the build quality seems quite good (threaded inserts and plated lugs). However, the Douk Audio folks did not take the time to label the MM vs MC switch. Question: May we assume that using an MC output with and MM input will make no difference on longevity of this otherwise very useful rendition of 70 year old technology?
