Not perfect but for the price, this little beauty cannot be faulted.

Incredibly lightweight lens that does exactly what it says on the tin. Reports of "slow AF" performance refer to those occasions when the lens is forced to "hunt" and tracks the entire (very extensive) focussing range, which can take a few seconds, but when correcting or making minor adjustments to focus on a subject it is snappy and accurate.

For macro work (for which it is primarily intended, obviously) I find the manual focus ring of most use, and it would have been useful to have an MF/AF switch on the lens - but there isn't one, so you have to toggle AF/MF thru your camera menu or back panel switch. No biggie.

Manual focus is very accurate, using a very "low gear", meaning that travelling thru the entire focus range takes a LOT of turning of the dial. This if course is very useful for fine focus adjustments in close-up and macro use.

The 35mm focal length (70mm @ 35mm equiv.) makes this a very useful prime lens too although the f3.5 max aperture and the focussing behaviours of it mitigate against it in some circumstances.

The lack of weight is due primarily to the relative lack of glass... despite the length of the barrel, the front element is very deeply recessed negating the need for a lens hood, hence one is not provided with the lens. Otherwise, build quality is the usual high standard we come to expect from Olympus. This is a "Standard" range lens, so no weather or dust proofing, but there is a nice substantial metal mount and although the lens body itself is primarily plastic it is never-the-less a very solid (albeit very light) piece of kit.

Good value and very sharp

The macro lens for the price paid is extremely good value. It has to be used with an adapter for Micro 4/3. Although it is not fast in focusing, when it focuses, the image is very sharp and a good bokeh is obtained. For a person who is on a very limited budget but who wishes to have a lens for macro, this lens is recommended. It is also light - which to me is good as I intended to carry it with me on my travels. It is suitable for my needs because all I want to take is flowers and spiders. if I want a faster lens for macro for butterflies, I have the Canon 100mm USM f2.8 which I fix to my Canon 50D, but it is too heavy for travel. .Read full review...

Beautiful results with this lens. Great value for the money!

I bought this 35mm Olympus digital macro lens because I wanted to do some macro photography, not just "close-up" photography.
This lens is awesome! It is very fast and is easy to use with my Olympus camera. I am not a professional but with this lens I am able to get professional results.Read full review...

Strange looking lens, but works great!

When I first opened the box, I thought this lens was missing a front element because of its very strange appearance, but that is actually how it's meant to look! Works well on my dad's Olympus OM-D E-M1 camera and it's supposed to be an extremely sharp lens. What's really cool is that you can use it with the Olympus Four Thirds teleconverters for even more magnification!Read full review...

Great starter macro lens.

Great bang for your buck..sure it not 1.8 or 1.4 but in good light it will take excellent photos my opinion. Maybe not quite as nice as my Nikon D7100 with the 105mm macro, but for price very good. Great lens to start you out with to see if macro is for you,
seems to hold near it's used selling price after several years in it's life also.

absolute stunning results and good handeling, super fine macros

this is a high grade lens, and produces exceptionally sharp results. barrel distortion is negligible in comparison with other similar focal length lenses. very good size and autofocus time is acceptable.Read full review...

great macro lens!

I'm loving this lens. Awesome detail. I'll be using this lens for tests I imagine! I haven't had any problems focusing up close since I got my macro flash.
