Does not play in regular DVD Players
Format says: DVD, but not for U.S.A. DVD players. I'll keep it for a reminder to not look at just "format".

A story that will rock you to your core, but an absolute must see!
A great CD with a story that will shock you and you will never forget it. Harsh & confronting but well worth the watch.
Once Were Warriors - awesome!
Love the movie - has always been a favourite and makes me homesick for NZ.

See this movie before you die. You'll live 122mins longer.
Brutal, violent, numbing, confronting and real. This is the human story everywhere...east London, Edinburgh,Johannesburgh,Dublin,East LA...anywhere. A movie that shocked the world, a movie that changed the game setting new global benchmarks in the love/war adversity stakes. This is a real flic,no special effects or makeup budget, starring nobody and every human. Its graphic, edge of cringe seat, wont let you leave...but this is a powerful and deeply disturbing icon of its time, a measurement instrument of social reflection, attitudes, values and driver of change.Us kiwi's, us maori call it a Documentary, a NZ Tourism DVD, but its so much our story, the bigger story of us, and in a bizarre way, a strong and proud story. Ive met the author Alan Duff and i was humbled by his journey and achievment.Read full review...
Powerful
Excellent film. Heart breaking and raw.
Actors were incredible and the plot intense.
A story that brought up strong emotions and kept me glued to the screen.
One of my favourite films alongside the sequel.
A great inside perspective to Kiwi honour and family dependance.Read full review...

This is a very realistic and raw movie at certain stages. The violence is confronting at times, mostly in relation to the hitting of women, which is not to be tolerated by society. But this movie is reflective of a time in New Zealand where violence was part of everyday life. Overall along with the follow up movie, I find this enjoyable and would recommend to those that haven't seen it to at least watch it once. Regards SteveRead full review...
Superior film making
This is a guttsy, tell-it-like-it-is movie. No punches pulled. Shocking but gripping. Maori community in the world of crime and booze.
The lead actor is totally convincing.
