Another good live album from DT

If you like Dream Theater's second keyboardist Derek Sherinian, this album is a must for your collection. If you're new to DT and asking, "Derek who?" I recommend perhaps starting with Score, DT's most recent live album. Once in a Livetime is fantastic though- the performance has a lot of energy and the setlist is a good collection of their work up to Falling into Infinity. A Change of Seasons and Lines in the Sand are standout performances. Derek does an excellent job reinterpreting original keyboardist Kevin Moore's writing. This rendition of Take the Time is probably my favorite for the keyboard shredding, and guitarist John Petrucci goes crazy with the end solo and launches into a rendition of Freebird (one of many musical quotes in the concert). Singer James LaBrie had still not completely recovered from his vocal cord injuries (caused by an illness contracted on the Awake tour), but for the most part he sounds fine here. At worst, he sounds strained but pulls through. Don't let that scare you away, the rest of the band is doing some of their more creative live improvisation here. I'd say the album is well worth the purchase.Read full review...

Once in a LIVEtime...ten years later

This album is a must for a Dream Theater fan. It offers a newer, LIVE perspective on songs that were recorded with that dreaded " 80's " mind-set (ie reverberated snare to hell and back, as well as triggered sounding drums and cymbals).

I originally had this album and had misplaced it at some point, and I had recently remembered how "bad ass" the Puppy's on Acid track sound...so I needed to get this album again. For $3, how could I pass it up! Thanks again.

Oh, and it's condition was superb!!!!

Once in a Livetime - Dream Theater (CD 1998)

The essence of this CD is really esoteric as the music reflects a mode of music that is very nice. For me the guitarist John Petrucci on this CD shines as he plays some very hot guitar. Over all if you are looking for an CD that gives you insight into the band Dream Theater this one is for you. I loved this CD and found that it is among the best that Dream Theater has produced.Read full review...

once in a livetime by dream theater

This is a geat live record. Some of the sound was not recorded well, has some fading in and out. I do not reccomend this record as a first to someone to hear this group. This record is welll worth the time to listen to. I have enjoyed it.Read full review...

Great Live CD!

Has many classic DT tracks, as this is quite an 'old' live album, but in my opinion DT's older stuff is the best anyhow! Worth the buy if you find a good price!
