Is a 2015 smart phone still viable?

To answer the above simply, Yes. As we see companies releasing phones closer and closer together with bigger and bigger differences, we also see the drop off of "older" phones. I have owned the iPhone 6s and the samsung s6 and while these phones are extremely powerful they are also extremely expensive. This phone takes the the power of the SD801 (which is an older processor) and couples it with 3 gigs of ram effectively making it feel like a much more expensive phone. But this is not a perfect phone, the wireless bands that it has are very odd are don't support many CDMA and the new GSM bands pertaining to LTE: This should not be a problem is you live in the UK though. what does that mean? to be honest it means this phone is not "future proof", so if you plan on buying a phone that you'll be keeping for 3-5 year this may not be the one for you. But with all this aside the Oneplus X is a very powerful phone internally, aesthetically pleasing to look at, and has a very nice display.Read full review...

Great specs, gorgeous screen, bad exterior speaker.

Pros, It's very thin, has an AMOLED screen which makes the colors pop, an SD card slot, and a decent camera. besides these the 3GB of ram and more than sufficient CPU keep this phone from dating itself and has no problems in running all recent applications.

Cons, the back of the phone is glass so dropping the phone is a bit of an issue. The upshot of this is that the phone feels the same on the front and back and it gives the overall impression of being one piece of glass.

The speaker is not very useful so I recommend either earbuds or investing in a good Bluetooth speaker.

major flaw

The OnePlus X is an impressive little phone: it has a bright, sharp display, premium design, and clean software. One major flaw that keeps me from recommending this phone to anyone living in the US. It's an unlocked phone, which OnePlus advertises as compatible with LTE networks on both AT&T and T-Mobile. OnePlus X lacks support for AT&T's most widely used LTE frequency. Further, it doesn't have support for a frequency that T-Mobile is rapidly transitioning its network to. OnePlus X is capable of connecting to AT&T's LTE network, it can't in many areas because it can't talk to the 700MHz frequency (also known as LTE Band 17) AT&T most often uses. OnePlus confirmed to me that the X is not compatible with AT&T's Band 17 or T-Mobile's Band 12, and it says there are no plans to add support for them in the future, via a hardware tweak or software update.Read full review...

THE best "budget" Android phone, of 2015:

Coming from a 16GB 3rd Generation Motorola Moto G, I was sorta kicking myself in the keister, upon learning that this device had been announced, just about a week or so later... Of course, everything is better. -_- :P 1080p AMOLED display, compared to a 720p IPS panel, 3GB's of RAM, compared to 2, a slightly bigger battery, much better build quality, ect.

All for a retail price, of $249? ... I've really enjoyed, (and at the same time, have been semi-frustrated. lol) seeing the current trend, of, as MKBHD (Marques Brownlee) put it: "Cheap phones are getting good, and good phones are getting cheap."

The only real downside to this, which, is a huge deal for some USA buyers, not a whole lot, for me personally, though. Is the omission of mobile data bands 12, and 17, which are used for both T-Mobile, & AT&T 4G LTE coverage. Take what you will, from that, I guess.

IMHO though, kudos to OnePlus, for creating not just a killer "budget" device, but a pretty solid offering, in general.
