Great Form and Function!

Despite being released over three years ago, the Palm Tungsten T|3 is still a very capable PDA. With its slider design and metal casing it looks sleek and elegant while being sturdy and well made. Its screen is both bright and large, with its innovative slider, virtual graffiti area and landscape mode. It also is coupled with a fast processor and 64 mB of memory which is sufficient for most users. Heavy users will like the SD/SDIO card slot for expansion of memory and function. In day to day use its included Personal Information Management (PIM) applications are very easy to use. For example its Calendar, Contacts list, Memos and Notepad are simple and can be tailor to your preferences. Also included is a Voice Recorder for taking dictation or recording personal thoughts. Its beautiful screen is wonderful for viewing photos and MP3s can be played and listened through standard headphones. Although not of the same quality as a dedicated MP3 player, I find it quite acceptable listening.
Drawbacks include poor battery life, particularly with heavy use or extensive BT or IR beaming. The memory is not flash memory so if the battery does drain completely you lose all info stored on the device. Also, it does not include WiFi which many users require but others may not use. Had this device had included WiFi the Palm T|3 would have been perfect and my rating would have been EXCELLENT instead of GOOD.
Personally, I love mine and I am not planning to upgrade any time soon. In fact I bought a second one to have as backup.

Tungsten T3 review

Bought it because I wanted to try a newer Palm PDA. Operates very fast, much more so than my Visor Prism (almost too fast with things like Memo pad). Good color on screen, good detail, larger font on the home screen than with Windows Mobile. Easy to xfer files from my Visor to the T3. Will sync with Windows XP, Windows 7, Mac OS Leopard. Has standard 3.5mm headphone jack, Realplayer is included, and it reads regular MP3s. Bluetooth works. You can sync it to a phone and use it as a dialer, as it has a built in microphone and speaker. It has the slide down screen which, depending upon the function or program, gives you more screen space, or gives you a keyboard or the scratch pad. The midcaps hack from earlier days is integrated into Graffiti 2, but some of the letters now require two pen strokes instead of one, which makes it harder for guys like me who used Graffiti 1 for so long. It also includes Documents to Go, so you can read/write MS Office documents. You can view items on the SD card, but you cannot xfer files between the card and the T3 (unless I have not found the right program). All in all, a good gizmo.Read full review...

Buy one and love it!

Actually the reason I bought this is funny, or unusual at least. I bought a Bible program at auction, and found when I got it that it was for a Palm operating system. I already had 2 older Palms but they ran on version 4 operating system and the Bible program required OS 5. I couldn't afford much so I went looking on eBay again for a Palm with OS 5 and found this one. I knew it had a bad battery as stated in the description, but figured I could fix that ok. What a job that was!! But I did get a new battery in it and was able to get the Bible program all loaded into it. I know everyone uses a phone for just about everything now, including to find their way to the bathroom via a GPS, but this Palm T3 is really neat. You can load a ton of stuff into it. And it has a wonderful display. I am very happy with this neat little unit and would recommend one to anyone.Read full review...

Great product but "Old School"

I purchased the Palm T3 for my wife to be used as an address book. We are one of the few not using cell phones and I saw this product, used, on ebay.

The PALM was an excellent product during it's day, but cell phones made them "old school". For our use, it's fine. It's easy to add names, especially using our computer to input the information and then transmitting it to the PALM via bluetooth or, easier yet, the USB cable.

The software included was dated and would not work on my computer using Windows 7. Since I have the "Professional" version, I was able to download "Windows XP Mode" from Microsoft, at no charge, and the Palm program works great.

Perhaps the software with a new Palm T3 is a later version. PALM.Com no longer works and it seems that HP now offers limited support for the product.

I've seen NEW Palm T3 products offered, but I think they are old stock and not worth the $200-$300 offering price.

It works great, offers an easy to read screen. For someone needing basic record or list keeping, it's a good product.

Palm Tungsten T3: Good overall Palm PDA

Well, This is the better of two Palm PDA's I have owned. There's not much to say about it, really. It goes fast, it has a good internal storage capacity. One of the things I like most about it is the taskbar at the bottom of the screen. I can just glance down there to see the time, I can switch between applications, and there's quick access to the volume modes and brightness setting.

One downside of this device is it has a poor battery life. It carries the same battery as the Palm Tungsten T2, which is a 900Mah battery. However, the faster processor causes an extra strain on the battery. Some people remedy this by just installing a bigger battery. I suggest downloading a free application that help you to get more battery life out of this. This is PXA Clocker, to under-clock the CPU so it causes less strain of a battery. Also, turning down the screen brightness helps.

Not to shabby

so the Life Drive is out, and I sold my T3 to buy one. Well, it has a faster processor than the T3, yet it runs slower. The wifi is cute, but not really that functional, I mean the screen while high res for a palm, is still tiny compared to any computer... It keeps crashing on me, and I have installed all the updates. It has this awful lag when you try to open any program.

Bottom line? the T3 is smaller, faster and in my opinion, better. Unless you just absolutely need the 4 gigs space (for what I don't know, don't say mp3's, just buy a cheap SD memory card and run then from you guessed it, the T3) I'd stick with the T3. The T5 has a plastic case, and the TX has a slower processor. My Lifedrive is on ebay 4 sale now, and I'm shopping for a new T3 right now...

For perspective, I have used Palm computers since about 8 or 10 years, starting with the PalmPilot Personal, then a Palm III then a Palm Vx, then my beloved T3, and now this frustrating LifeDrive.

Palm Tungsten T3 Review

I purchased our first Palm Tungsten T3 through E-Bay for my husband who was constantly forgetting personal appointment information. He liked it so well that my son who is going to be a high school senior this year requested that we get him one from E-Bay too. Since they both know what they love most about it, I will let them write from here.

Hello, I'm the son that got the T3 mentioned above. The T3 has got to be one of the most useful products out there on the market. All of the functions are easy to use, and programs such as calendar, memo (a text program), voice memo, and calculator come in handy all the time. The touch screen allows for characters to be written directly instead of having to use a keyboard as well as eliminating the need for excess buttons. Also, the screen can extend so that you have twice the screen size. These and numerous other useful features are why I recommend the T3 to anyone reading this review.

Hello, I'm the husband/dad that got the T3 mentioned above. I really like the calendar, task, and audible alarm functions. I was missing a lot of personal appointments as my wife said. I hardly miss them anymore. I'm just learning the "documents-to-go" functions. I was amazed that I can do Excel spreadsheets on a PDA! With the PC software, I can also open a simplified version of Excel on our home PC, which uses Microsoft Works vs. Office. As an engineer, this is a great benefit. And finally, I was able to download a Bible onto the PDA (see Olivetree.com for free versions of the Bible). The power of the PDA with the software can get me to just about any verse in seconds. Words searches are fast too. I've just begun to utilize the PDA's features, but I'm already satified with its performance. Blue Tooth is fun too. I highly, highly recommend the T3!

Tungsten T3 - a very useful organizer

The Palm Tungsten T3 is my second Palm PDA. I previously owned the Palm VIIx. I use the T3 with the PalmOne universal wireless keyboard and it works great. I like the sliding case / expandable screen feature and I like the address book, calendar, and memo apps. Also, I like the voice memo recorder. My only complaint is that the digitizer (calibration of stylus location on screen) is always off a bit (about 2mm) at the bottom of the screen (the area beneath the slide-out case). That's one of the reasons I use the external keyboard, instead of using the keyboard on the screen. Overall, I'm very happy with the T3 and imagine I'll use it as long as it lasts.Read full review...

Amazing!

I've had my trusty Palm T3 for over three years now. It's my 4th Palm (Vx, T, T2, T3), and it's my favorite. It works as well today as the day I bought it. I've tried the Life Drive, and the TX, and went back to my T3. I've also tried the Treo 650, but I like the T3 combined with a bluetooth cell phone (Moto RazR for me) better.

The feature set on the T3 cannot be beat -- for me, the voice recorded is a prime functionality. I love recording meetings. I'll pull the audio directly off the SD card (don't even need to sync) and open it up directly in Quicktime in less than 30 seconds. Amazing. And I can save an audio record of virtually any meeting I attend to the hard drive on my laptop.

Same think with documents to go - I'll start a Word doc, or excel, or even power point, on the T3 and save it to the SD card. Then I eject the SD card and insert it in the card reader on my laptop. Again, I don't even need to synch, and the file is there on my laptop.

Of course I can also synch to move the files if I prefer, and I can also use the built-in blue tooth. But I find that I really like storing documents and audio on the SD card -- that way I can simply move the card back and forth between my Palm and my Powerbook.

My only complaint about the T3 is built in Wi-Fi would be nice, but the Palm wi-fi card is a very-close-to-perfect remedy for this shortcoming. Having said that, I don't use wi-fi as much as I use the bluetooth. I've found that I tend to be hard on cell phones - so I go through them pretty often. It's nice to have all my information in the Palm, and I can always use the Palm Phonebook to drive the phone. I don't have to worry about putting my hundreds of numbers in each new phone I buy.

In short- I have nothing but great things to say about my Palm -- it is truly a digital assistant. It helps you get through a busy day without missing a beat. I really can't imagine ever giving it up -- best PDA Palm ever made, bar none.
