Panasonic DMP-BD Blu-Ray Player

I now own two of these Panasonic DMP-BD Blu-ray disc players. They are high quality units with an amazing amount of conectivity options, and compatability (CD, CDR, CDRW, DVD, BluRay) especially for their thin profile design. Nothing is more frustrating than a new HDTV or media player that only provides 1 HDMI or Digital Optial Audio as the only connectivity option. This unit has everything from RCA connecions up to HDMI, Cat5/RG45 ethernet connection and a USB port. You can use this unit with any TV or stereo / multimeadia system made after 1990 up to today's latest technology.Read full review...

Good player

This player does well, but if the disc has any scratches on it, it will skip or may not play. honestly save your money on any blu-ray player. On most movies the picture is unscaled and not true hd anyway. you will not notice a lot of difference between most blu-ray movies and standard up converted movies on a good DVD player. Don't get me wrong their is some very good HD content out there, but not quite enough. The sound effects on the other hand is a substantially better on blu-ray of you have a nack for true digital sound, but I had to manually increase the dialog volume on my player because the sound effects were much louder than the person talking. I found myself turning up the tv to here them talk, then turning it down during a high action scene. I hope this review was helpful on your purchase on a blu-ray player. Panasonic is one of the best to me though.Read full review...

Panasonic Blu-Ray Players - Excellent low cost option for home theater

The Panasonic DMP-BD35 Blu-Ray player is an older model player available through ebay and other sources. Though an older design, it provides many great features including the ability to play audio and video from compact data cards and thumb drives. Image quality is excellent and DVDs are converted to 1080p with very good quality. Sometimes DVDs look almost as good as Blu-Ray. Of course, CDs are also handled with great audio quality. Outputs include composite, component, HDMI and for audio, analog and fiber (HDMI also includes audio and should be used for the highest quality lossless audio with home theater). Features include repeat play and still and slow motion functions. One downside to the player is it's relatively slow power-up which takes about 15 seconds from a cold start (not a big issue for me). For the price, this player is hard to beat.Read full review...

Oustanding DVD Upconversion

I researched BluRay players for a while, and almost bought a PS3 based on rave reviews. Since BluRay players have come down in price significantly, the PS3 isn't the value it once was unless you definately play PS3 games.. I just don't have that kind of time anymore..

This Panasonic BD35 has received consistently high reviews from all sites. I have to say, those reviews are right.

I hooked up my standard progressive scan Panasonic DVD player and this BluRay player to my Panasonic AX200u projector and threw Kung fu Panda into the regular DVD player and displayed it on my 106" projection screen. It just looked OK comming from the standard DVD player via component cables and stretched to 106". It looked much better on my 42" plasma on standard DVD.

Next I put the same standard DVD into the BD35 BluRay player connected to the same projector over HDMI and the upconversion is really amazing. Honestly I was expecting to really have to look hard to tell if there was a difference between the two since I have a decent standard DVD player, since many forums say that upconversion is just a sales tactic or doens't do much for video quality at all, but I knew at first glance the BD35 had significantly better video quality. The colors were significantly better and brighter, but most importantly, the jaggy edges and other artifacts had almost disappeared. The picutre was much smother and more detailed from the BD35.

I did the same test with a few other standard DVD's like Twilight, Tombstone, Lord of the Rings, and same result.. I easily noticed a better, crisper, and more detailed image through the BD35.

To my suprise, there is a very large difference between playing standard DVD's on a regular player and this upconverting BD35. It's still not the quality of a BluRay image I've seen at a few of my friends houses, but it's way better than standard DVD player playback, especially on a large 106" display. Knowing how good the upconverted DVD's look, I can't wait to see what a BluRay looks like.

I would say the upconverted video quality is so good, that I don't feel the need to replace any of my standard DVD's with BluRay discs (of course I might change my mind after I rent a BluRay disc this weekend). I will likely consider purchasing BluRay's for select movies that are my favorites as the BluRay disc prices continue to drop, but seriously... the upconverted standard DVD's look really great. Unless you are very knit-picky about your video quality, you won't mind the difference between upconverted DVD and a BluRay disc, especially on smaller displays (42" or less) or on TV's that don't have 1080p native output.

Great player... and at the refurb prices on Ebay this thing is a steal. Got my refurb for $157.00 shipped.. about what I would pay for a non BluRay upconverting DVD player... now I have both.. BluRay capability and DVD upconversion.. :)

Picture and sound quality is exceptional
Even though quite a bit older it's easily comparable to or better than most newer ones.

Panasonic DMP-BD35 Blu-Ray player

Simple to use, just like a dvd player. The initial scanning of the disk takes on average about 1 to 3 minutes. Which from what I understand is normal since there is alot of information stored on each disk. The picture is amazing and the sound is top knotch. The firmware updates, speed wise, depend on the speed of your internet connection. The initial set up took every bit of 30 minutes. It would have been faster if I would have known the remote had to be programmed with a code before you could proceed any further. You can play your normal dvd's in the player. Do they look HD? No. But they do look MUCH better then while in a dvd player. I would definately tell my friends to take a look at this machine if they were in the market for a Blu Ray player.Read full review...

Fantastic Blu Ray player at a gret price!

This is an amazing Blu Ray player! After doing a ton of product research, this player had all of the features I was looking for (not too much, but not too little!) at the right price. The picture quality is spectacular on my LG 42LH55 TV and the HD audio really sings on my Sony STR-DG1200 receiver. This player has every possible HD audio encoding format built in, as well as support for 12 bit Deep Color and x.v.color which make a noticeable difference in the picture and sound quality. The Ethernet port is great for updating the firmware as well as using the BD Live enhanced content. The loading time on both Blu Rays and DVDs is quick, and the setup menus are very user friendly and don't require pouring into the manual to figure out. On a cosmetic note, the player has a small, sleek form factor and is surprisingly light weight. I have always purchased and trusted Panasonic products, and they really have a winner here.

The only point worth noting where improvements could have been made is the fact that this player does not support 5.1 or 7.1 analog audio for the HD. Some older receivers do not have HDMI, but rather the hookup for SACD at 5.1 or 7.1. But, this is not a problem provided your receiver is capable of decoding the HD formats or can pass them through directly or the player will decode to whatever can be handled by the receiver or TV. Other than that, there is nothing about this player I don't absolutely love. I'd buy a second if I had space or a need for it. Thank you Panasonic!

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! NO REFUNDS ALLOWED

So it was my husbands birthday when I found this great priced Panasonic DMP-BD35 Blu-Ray. He's been asking for one for the longest so I figured this was going to be the perfect gift for him. Well, his sister came by and bought him a Playstation 3 so it's obvious which on he kept. I called "We do better deals" to see about getting a return label and such and they were like "We have a no excuse policy" I was like "HuH???" They were assuming that I had purchased this used it and then decided to return it. I had advised them that I had purchased this only a week ago and the reason. The customer service rep "FRED" started arguing with me. He told me flat out "NO!" I reported them to the Better Business Beurue and guess what they got rated on there site? an "F"! This was my mistake because next time, I'm not going to go by the reviews on Ebay. I'm actually going to furthur investigate before I purchase anything. Please don't buy anything from there. I don't know how they stay in buisness.Read full review...

A fantastic value in a player.

I compared this player to several comparably priced Sony. The Panasonic has a fast load time, the remote works well,
some Sony models do not have a remote reject, nor as good a reverse and forward. I was so satisfied I bought another fro my girlfriend. The up conversion on a std DVD is awesome and the Surround excellent, I am running it with a Boise, with wired rear speakers thru a 1000w Sony amp. The walls will vibrate with crystal clear sound. The Panasonic DMP-BD35 is a great player for the price and highly recommend itRead full review...

Best BluRay player out there!

This plays any current audio type internally and will also stream any audio to a surround sound receiver.

It also plays AVCHD discs which is a must have for me. Lots of players say they support AVCHD playback but they have issues with it or it will only playback with certain firmware. This supports AVCHD playback out of the box with ANY firmware.

This is reviewed everywhere as one of the top 3 BluRay players and its the cheapest. For around $225 you can't do much better. Too bad Panasonic discontinued this product. It's replacement the BD55/BD60 are the EXACT same player with a different outside shell. The only difference is the BD55/BD60 supports 7.1 surround with standard AV cables and BD35 only supports 5.1.
But since EVERYONE uses HDMI now and no one uses AV anymore this doesn't matter in the least. If you are using HDMI like the rest of us the BD35 is EXACTLY the same as the BD55/BD60 and for more less than half the price in some cases.
