Replaced identical unit purchased 10 years ago

I bought this unit to replace an identical one I bought retain over 10 years ago. I used it heavily to make permanent copies of old TV shows I had recorded on my cable-box DVR. I also used it to double as a secondary DVD player. It always worked very well. The only characteristic I wish were different is not a fault. When I wanted to make permanent copies of movies I had DVR'ed, it would not burn them onto a DVD because of the copy protection software built in.

I would not have bought this one if the previous one I had hadn't been so good. The original somehow got the audio circuitry fried by a power surge. These are pretty old now, and will probably difficult to re-replace. I put the newly purchased one on an APC uninterruptible power source replete with lots of surge protection.Read full review...

Works great except for

It works great except when recording from a Sony Video 8 camcorder. When using the Sony as the source you will get a copywrite protected error. Everything else is superb. I recorded from VHS tapes and programs fine. Read full review...

Not working dead

I know it was for parts or not working but I didn't expect it to be dead for what I paid for it.

I needed a recorder and it does do that very well.

Someone has locked a code into the machine and it will not play pre recorded DVDs I don't know how to remove the code. I talked with Panasonic but couldn't remove the code. This recorder does work & records fine. So it can only be used in a limited way... LNRead full review...
