Probably the best choice.

I trusted another buyer's view that this was the best of the Panasonic DMC-FZ camera line, and I believe he got it exactly correct. I have had an FZ15 for many years, and it is a superb camera. I decided to try the FZ35 on the other buyer's recommendation, and it is indeed a fine camera. I had bought an FZ70 and was very disappointed with it. It has some very interesting features, including the 60 power zoom lens, but the quality just isn't there. The lens is made in China and is just junk. Photos are very soft, especially at long zoom extensions. I also bought an FZ100, and it has the Leica lens made in Japan,and is almost infinitely superior to the FZ70, but is still inferior to the FZ35. Actually, the FZ15 is the best of those models I've tried, It is limited to a 12 power zoom, and perhaps that is the optimum amount of zoom for the current state of technology. The 15 has only a 4 megapixel sensor, and does a really fantastic job. I've found that there is little or no advantage in a megapixel count above 6 to 12, unless you are just interested in impressing your friends with your pixel count. I own a Nikon D7100 with 24 megapixels and I find little or no advantage in that pixel count compared to the 6 megapixel D70 which I've owned for several years and which I've always been delighted with. Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 12.1 Megapixel

I am not an avid photographer, but always like taking pictures when on vacation, out for the afternoon, or at social events. I can tell the difference between low and high quality images.

Last year, while on a trip to the Carribean, there was about 20 different people with 20 different cameras, all taking essentially the same pictures of the beach, sunset, etc... After everyone loaded their pictures to the server, there was one set of photos that were superb to the rest. Those came from a Panasonic Lumix with the Lieca lens.

I have always liked Lieca quality, as I have used their microscopes, laser rangefinder binoculars, and even dGPS. They never came up short in any category, except the price. Also, Panasonic has always been a great product,too. Their drill, microwave, and water pick are in this household. The conjunction of the two have come up with an excellent product. Lieca lens with Panasonic electronics. Excellent!

This camera is a little bit larger than a pocket camera, which some of my friends didn't like. Comments like, its too big and bulky are common. However, the 18x optical zoom is excellent. No complaints from those whiners when the see the end product. I especially like the camera's ability to make the photo brilliant. The subject, whether a motorcycle, pet, person, etc... always stands out from the background. Landscapes look awesome, beach, desert, mountains, whatever come out purely amazing. I cant even imagine what the addition of the zoom multiplier does for the landscapes (it takes the zoom to 30+ times zoom). That's enough optical power to see the dirt on your kids face at the other end of the soccer field! Go get this camera, I got it for $325 shipped, which is about $75 off the msrp.

You will be amazed by the image quality. I havent even gotten into taking HD video, yet. However, surely from other reviews you will find that it, too, is awesome. Oh, the final key selling point, rechargeable battery!Read full review...

BIG Camera in a LITTLE BODY!!!

This camera, was purchased to replace an older, Digital SLR camera that I had, because it weighed a TON. If I was out on an expedition, that called for my "big camera", (and not my little purse camera), I would be worn out, from trying to carry it, around all day.

Then, this camera, was brought to my attention, at a concert, (it takes great video too! EVEN in the dark!). I am, MORE than impressed. There are a few things, (that I wanted), to purchase, to make the "kit" complete. Things like lens filters, and a different attachment for sun blockage. I also purchased an extra battery, and a portable car charge, to make sure that I have a charged battery whenever I am out.

As far as using the camera, there are, quite a few, "Smart modes", to choose from too. Neat little things like, when taking pictures of your pet, you can actually enter two different NAMES for the pet, and it remembers the pet, for the next time. There is the same thing for children too! VERY COOL!

I have yet, to get to ALL of the great things, that this camera is capable of, but it is not very complicated at all. You can also choose to enter, manual settings, and use it like a "professional".

All in all----this was a GREAT choice, for a mid range Digital SLR. AND, at 12 mega pixels, I won't be needing to replace this camera, for a LONG time. There are also, TONS of accessories, that you can purchase to enhance this great little item too! *** Let me stress, that other than the lens filter, ( having on a clear lens protector will keep the lens in perfect shape), you DO NOT need to buy any extras, to make this camera, work like a charm!!***

Great bridge camera. Not a DSLR, but better than most other P&S cameras.

The idea is to get the shot.

I found the FZ35 P&S bridge camera to be the most reasonable compromise substitute for getting that shot over my expensive, heavy, bulky Canon 20D DSLR system that I had stopped lugging around with me.

The FZ35 looks and feels like a DSLR, though lighter and smaller. It has a viewfinder, useful buth smaller and not as sharp as a DSLR. There is a full complement of manual and automatic exposure controls to satisfy any DSLR enthusuast. It has a sharp Carl Zeiss 18x optical zoom lens that covers a larger focal range than the 3 interchangeable lenses my DSLR required. And I can carry this camera with me wherever I go so I can get that shot.

The image quality in good light is sharp, detailed, with well-balanced color and contrast. Poor lighting will introduce noise at ISO's above 200, but still acceptable images to ISO 800, better than most smaller sensor P&S cameras. The FZ35's has a quick shutter and focus response and reasonably fast burst modes, all enabling you to get that shot. The image stabilizer is a big help when zooming or using a lower shutter speed.

The various scene modes may be helpful but I haven't used them much. I did find the night sports scene mode useful in getting some reasonable images of a play in a darkened auditorium.

The FZ35 takes sharp, color-balanced 720P videos that can be played back through an HDMI port to your HD TV. You can zoom (silently),adjust exposure and white balance while shooting video. And the image stabilization works well in video mode too.

So now I can get my shots because I have my camera with me. And I can feel comfortable that most of my shots will be keepers due to the quality, speed and functionality of the FZ35.Read full review...

Looks belie performance

ebay asked me to write a review because I had recently bought one. It replaced a superior Canon PowerShot SX IS which I hardly used 'cause I don't go out as much as I used to and it was complicated to use and heavy. Main desire was always superior video above the old standard of 640X480 which just doesn't cut it when magnified, and long optical zoom for catching those almost-elusive UFOs. So this camera's decent 18X optical zoom is satisfying (Canon was 20X) and, best of all, it has high-definition video, 1280 x 720. Not full h-d but still better than 640X480.

I haven't gone out since I received it but I did test it, shooting stills, videos, and getting used to the camera's controls. I do miss the articulating screen of the Canon which is always protected when not in use. I practiced shooting high-altitude planes and was able to find them fast in the EVF which I prefer over the generous LCD screen. While I do have a steady grip and the resulting videos were almost free of shake, it could have been the camera's image stabilizer.

I viewed the stills and videos on my 20" DELL monitor and the results were totally satisfying. The nice thing about this camera is that it is light and when holding it chest-high, your arms don't feel like dropping.

The only complaint I have is the dedicated battery instead of using AAs as my Canon did. Easier to find as opposed to carrying a dead battery around with an unusable camera or paper weight! Of course, it is de rigueur to buy a second, backup battery.

Not much of a review 'cause I'm never going to get creative beyond basic point 'n' shoot so all of this camera's wonderful features will remain unused but it's good to know it has them.

Lots of Bang for the Buck

I've had my FZ35 for 2 1/2 months. There's very little to dislike about this camera for the price and considering its competition. I like to use the viewfinder to compose pictures . . . it's a hangover from my film SLR days. The viewfinder on the FZ35 is a bit too small, but I can live with it. The "diopter adjustment dial," a teenie-weenie wheel next to the viewfinder that allows you to adjust the viewfinder focus to suit your eyes, is also too small. For those who primarily use the generously large LCD monitor to compose (most people), this is not a factor. Aside from that, this camera has an incredible array of options in its software for automatically shooting any type of photo you can imagine, including some creative choices in a few categories or you can go completely manual. The info displayed on the LCD or in the viewfinder can also be adjusted to lots or very little (keep it simple). I've done quite a few macro photos and am very pleased. The lithium-ion battery is a blessing after years of cursing AAs. Be sure that your purchase includes an extra battery as well as an 8GB memory card to supplement the internal, built-in memory and a USB compatible card reader. This is a good back-up to the download cord and is slightly faster than the cord. Btw, the softcopy owners' manual is comprehensive and well written. In summary, Panasonic did their homework when developing this camera. Buy it for no more than $400 and you'll be satisfied.Read full review...

I'm happy, so far.

I bought the Lumix DMC-FZ35 to replace another camera (different make and model) a few short weeks ago. I wanted a camera to take photos of fun group outings and to catalog my antique collection, but I haven't tested it in some of the rigorous environments yet. Since most of the smart phone technology has high mega-pixel levels already, and I didn't intend for intense photography, I wanted a higher-than smart phone, but less than super-expensive varieties. This camera hit the spot. it's fairly easy to use and takes great photos - portraits as well as sports/action photos. I bought this camera refurbished, and it didn't come with paper instructions, but it was relatively easy to figure out. The "photo playback" menu could be easier to locate and manage, but it's not a deal-breaker.

Light Weight, Anti-shake, and Shoots RAW

I suffer from mild hand tremor. This camera has stability control built into the camera, not dependent on a lens change like many other cameras. It has a Leica lens. This combination provides frequently sharp 12 MP photos. It has 18X optical zoom as well. This model, the FZ35, hit the sweet spot for sharpness, light weight, and moderate size. Excellent Camera for the money

I bought this camera because I wanted the convenience of a "point and shoot" but also the flexibility of being able to manually set functions if I want to do so. I am not a professional photographer, but have been an avid photo hobbiest for many years. So far, I am extremely happy with this camera. Specifically, I love the sharp picture quality delivered by the Leica lens,the relatively long battery life (and easy recharge process), the light compactness of the body and the ease of using the various buttons. I purchased the camera as part of a bundle that included an 8 GB memory card, camera case, etc. at a price that was really cheap for such a high quality piece of electronics.

Awesome quality constructed 12-mega pixel digital camera with 18x zoom!

I purchased the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 digital camera on a whim -- not quite expecting the superior quality that I received for the $125 (including shipping) purchase price.

Though the camera is an older model, I am extremely pleased with it and its functions, as the device suits my needs.

The camera is not lightweight because it is quality construction built to last.

It takes fantastic photos, even at the maximum zoom of 18x. Only drawback I've discovered thus far -- the focus is a bit slow when shooting at maximum zoom. But with all the other awesome and user-friendly settings, this can easily become a non-issue once you become familiar with the camera!

I would definetely recommend this camera to anyone who is looking for a digital camera that goes beyond the lastest "point and shoot" devices yet comes very close to a professional camera.

It's easy to use and comes with outstanding software for semi-professional editing. Great device even for the novice photographer.
