Great movie; well-rounded story
Got this without a case for a good price. My wife and I loved this movie. I couldn't give it a perfect 5/5 because of a couple spots where Jennifer Lawrence's acting is slightly awkward, and some less-than-perfect editing. Other than that, it's a good story with decent romance and conflict with a good dose of adventure with a very small cast. Beautiful failure
The sets and graphics in this movie were the best I have ever seen in three past 65 years of my movie watching. They spent a fortune on visual effects.
But like 99% of newer movies, it was over-hyped.
The story was 100% unbelievable. A space ship on a hundred years trip to some distant planet with everyone in deep sleep is not believable. The story that followed was not believable, especially the spacious and omnipotent decor inside the space ship. Remember, everyone was asleep! They did not need a billion dollars bar. Passengers - try it - you'll like it! Great Sci Fi
This was a different movie. I really like sci fi - my husband doesn't - but we were fully engaged in watching this movie and are glad I ordered it. I really knew nothing about the movie except the main characters woke up 90 years early in a 130 year flight. I liked it all the way to end but thought there should have been something new at the end besides the greenery (can't say without spoiling it). It is worth buying and if you can get this special deal - get it. I already owned After Earth (which I really liked) in Blu-ray and DVD but my copy had at least one black out scene (seems there were several in the original release) and I had never returned it so was glad to get a new copy that would not have that problem - so 2 movies for the price of one (2 separate discs). I'm a former film teacher and long time film student, academic, and critic. That said, it's not easy to impress me with science fiction movies. I've seen only two in the last 20 years I would recommend: "Interstellar" and this one. Yes, tried and true plot: boy meets girl, etc., but there's a whole lot more here than that. Yes, even the basic story has been done before and most of the action ("Lucille, retract tether"). But, the special effects--from the design of the ship to the "sets" is magnificent and makes you want to watch it again and again just for the visuals. Surprisingly, for a modern science fiction film, the acting and directing is excellent in most respects. Kept me interested and in later scenes, riveted to what was going on. That's excellent directing. Some critics say the dialogue is bad, but there are some clever moments: "I see you went shopping." "I went shop-lifting." All in all, I highly recommend this picture, and I don't do that very often. Oh yeah, if you haven't yet seen "Interstellar," watch a Blu-Ray version of that one too.Read full review...
