Non fitting starter

This starter does not fit a stock 1955 Chevy 265 V8 motor with automatic transmission. The starter had to be modified. I had to drill out the bolt threads on the top hole of the starter because the original starter top bolt turns into the bell housing. Once I did that the bolt did not fit because the solenoid housing was too thick so I had to grind that down to fit the bolt through the hole of the starter. Then the starter housing was pressing against the guide pin pertruding from the bell housing causing the starter to not sit flush, so I had to modify the starter housing again by grinding off more metal from the starter housing. Overall it was not complicated. Would have been much easier If it was mentioned in the item specifications. It was time consuming because the starter had to be installed/removed several times to fit it correctly. I do not recommend this starter if you are looking for an easy upgrade that just bolts onto your car if it is a 1955 Chevy 265 V8 motor with automatic transmission. The quality of the actual starter appears to be ok once you get it installed.Read full review...

Nice replacement with some modifications needed.

Needed material ground off mount surface at top. Threaded hole at top needed to be drilled out to bigger size for bolt to go through. Side hole also needed to be slotted or bigger for all three holes to line up. Worked well when finished modifying.Read full review...

Bad fit for a 283.....junk

Holes do not align due to the cast molding hitting the bell housing.
Had to do some grinding to clear the Bell housing.
Also, starter bendix only engaged about 50% of the time.
Took it off and threw it away and re-installed the original.Read full review...
