Unique doll, nice accessories, but hair is thinly-rooted, dress sewn on.

I am a de-boxing fashion doll collector and alteration artist. I chose this doll for the very unique outfit and molded plastic accessories. She is sewn into her dress with one easily cut thread down the back. She has the slimmer of the twist'n'turn waist constructions (1991) and her breastplate is sewn onto her dress.

The helmet is affixed by one removable plastic tag and does fit other dolls, but only those with smaller heads. It is well-made and sturdy. Her hair is rooted thinner than I have ever seen on another Mattel doll, with only one real layer so that it fits easily under the helmet. I rebodied the head onto a Liv Sophie.

I removed the dress and the armor and separated them. The breastplate suits only that slimmer twist'n'turn waist body construction well. It does not extend onto the back of the doll at all. The dress underneath comes off as one piece. The bustline is sheer. There was some manufacturing adhesive on the edges of the sleeves that stained one corner of each sleeve yellow. The dress is a lovely piece, with pressed folds in the sleeves (unlike the prototype in the manufacturer photo). I will be adding fasteners. The dagger looks the same on both sides, and is a great accessory. I had to cut the string to remove it.

She comes with white, pointed-toe flat shoes.

Overall, I am very happy with this doll because she is unique in many ways, and very tastefully designed. She was probably not intended for removal from the box, but she'll suit my purposes very well.Read full review...

For a friend with Breast Cancer

So, I have a friend with breast cancer. We are not geographically proximate to one another, so I chose the Viking Barbie with breast plate and fierce helmet to keep her company during chemo in my stead. My friend loves her Viking Princess Warrior. And she makes her laugh. So, perhaps not the gift for everyone, but in this case, yes a good value, yes a good quality and delivered early.
