Excellent product XT660Z 2012

I own a XT660Z 2012 from new, rear shock failer after 3600 miles as I am dry weather rider only now days am getting too old for riding in the rain! Was very surprised when the bike failed it's second MOT due the rear shock being empty of damping fluid? Have never driven off road only local riding due to my army service disabilities I ride up to a dozen times a year & the bike is very well kept & the bike still looks like showroom condition. The bike is stored with a Oxford Stormex cover also anti condensation & anti corrosive sparys applied when not in use, have never sprayed the shock with any kind of chemicals apart from water when cleaning it by hand as I keep it covered 24/7 before the bikes fortnightly wash & cleaning. I do not use a powerful jet washer on the bike, the one I use is called "Nomad" the pressure is no where near as harsh as a petrol station jet washer or other home jet washers this one can be used on everything from horse's to houses & everything inbetween search on Google to check the washer out! It's battery operated & portable, I wanted to explain how I clean the bike before someone says "the water pressure killed the suspension seals" etc. I have only ever owned bikes never had a car I passed my bike test at 17 & have been riding ever since I am now 50 so I like to think I know by now how to care for & clean for a motorbike! Before I took the bike to the dealer to have a new rear shock fitted I purchased one of these "socks" as bikers call them & asked the shop to fit it on the new shock for me so it's all covered & no chance of any rust pitting or stone chips as the sock is ventilated to prevent condensation & is made from very good breathable material with Velcro strips & two rip ties one top one bottom to keep the sock in place. I hope over the next few years when the bike goes for its MOT's it will extent the working life of the rear shock? The sock looks cool fitted to the bike with logos on both sides of the sock it fits perfectly on my XT it also leaves you room at the top of the rear shock so you can still adjust the shock settings for different riding conditions & weight on the bike for touring or off road riding etc, should I ever recover enough to ride longer than an hour or so! I have recommended it to all my biking mates & most have purchased one or two for there bikes but some mates are just die-hard all weather, all year riders & do not see the need for the product. I must admit if my shock had not failed I would probably say the same as I have had so many different bikes since I was 17 & have never had a rear shock fail on me weather that's just good luck or my riding style I don't know. I have had front fork seal failures but who hasn't so all I can do is see how it goes but I am convinced both from the quality, design & reviews I have read about the sock it should do it's job for many years to come before it needs replacing but for the cost of the "Shock Sock" compared to a new rear shock absorber is not even comparable I paid £25.00 I think for the sock a new rear shock absorber for my XT660Z cost me £402.99 for the shock & over £200 in labour to fit the new shock on the bike & pass it's MOT. Well I think I have covered everything about the sock what it does & what it is made of etc, after my experience & the "shock" (could not resist it!) of the price of replacing my rear shock absorber I would of bought one years ago & fitted it on the bike from new. But we all live & learn so take heed & way up the cost of this product & the cost of replacing your rear shock absorber it's a no brainer so get & buy one before you experience the pocket emptying price of replacing your suspension as I did, I forgot to say the sock can be fitted when the shock absorber is already on the bike so no need to remove the shock absorber to fit it!! Good luck & safe riding to all, it's a jungle out there!!Read full review...

Very smart and effective rear shock protection.

It's the most simple and effective rear shock protection you can think of, at a fair price.
You just wrap it around the rear shock, connect both ends with the velcron tape, rotate it so the velcron faces the drive direction and tighten the upper and lower tie-wraps. That's all it takes.Read full review...

2018 tiger 800 fitment

Fits the later tiger 800 models. Physical size is actually slightly smaller than the advertised dimensions but this is normal and it will stretch. I had the sizing of my delivered shocktube confirmed by the seller and r and g direct who compared it to others in stock. A bit tricky to fit around the top of the shock due to the position of the adjustment screw. Time will tell if it saves the shock..Read full review...
